Kids encouraged to submit recipes for publication

The Texas Round-Up is asking Texans ages 4-6 to submit their hearthealthy recipes for its Fit for Families recipe book. Texas Round-Up will provide winning chefs with a complementary registration into any Texas Round-Up fitness event held from Fall 2007 through the Summer 2008.

Selected heart-healthy recipes will be displayed on the Texas Round-Up Web site and printed on recipe cards for distribution at designated Texas Round-Up events.

Recipes will be made available electronically to anyone who requests them. Texas Round-Up may use recipes for other educational and promotional purposes. By entering the contest, contestants give Texas Round-Up the right to publish their submissions including their name.

Submission Guidelines: Recipe submissions must include the following:

What is the Texas Round-Up?

The Texas Round-Up is a statewide fitness initiative that encourages all Texans to adopt and maintain healthy lifestyles through regular exercise and general physical fitness. Texas Gov. Rick Perry created Texas Round-Up in 2004 to counter the trend of increasing obesity and sedentary lifestyles among Texans and to serve as a model for other states as they considered similar initiatives.

Texas Round-Up includes two main components: a free, online system for individuals to keep an ongoing record of their activities throughout the year and the Texas Round-Up Fitness Festival held in Austin the last Saturday of April.

Who can join Texas Round-Up?

Anyone can join Texas Round-Up, even people who don't live in Texas. Just sign in to the GetFitTexas program to start keeping a record of your activity.

I can't make it to Austin, so what can I do?

The only part of the Texas Round-Up that is in Austin is the Fitness Festival on the last Saturday of April. You can still get involved throughout the year for free with the online GetFitTexas program. You can also check out our events page to see if there are any events closer to where you live.

What is the affiliate cities program?

The affiliate cities program invites cities across Texas to join Texas Round-Up and help get local communities across Texas involved. Affiliate cities may either promote the online GetFitTexas program or they can promote the program as well as a local fitness event of their own. For more information about the program, please e-mail Penny Wheat at penny@texasroundup.org.
