BULLETIN BOARD DON'T MISS: Louise Community Thanksgiving Service The Louise Community Thanksgiving Service will be Sunday, Nov. 18 at 6 p.m. at the Louise First Baptist Church. Greg Brezena will be guest speaker. He grew up in Louise, graduated from LHS and went on to play professional football with the Atlanta Falcons. He and his wife are now in Christian ministry. Refreshments and fellowship will follow the evening service. TODAY, NOV. 17 Bake Sale at Sablatura's Grocery St. Procopius Altar Society will host a bake sale today at Sablatura's Grocery Store in Louise from 8 a.m. until all goods are sold. Winter/Christmas Garage Sale St. Philip Catholic Daughters will have a Winter/Christmas Garage Sale at 701 Hoskins Broadway today at 8 a.m. The sale will be inside the St. Philip youth house. Get a head start on all your Christmas decorating needs. Fibromyalgia Support Group Meeting The Wharton Fibromyalgia Support Group will meet today at the main branch of the Wharton Public Library from 10:30 a.m. until noon in the Harrison Conference Room. SUNDAY, NOV. 18 Prairie Switch Riders Toy Run Prairie Switch Riders Annual Wharton County Toy Run is Sunday. Registration begins at 10 a.m. at the VFW Hall, CR 306, in El Campo. Ride leaves at noon. Suggested donation is $15 for driver, $5 for passenger or new toy of equal or greater value. Raffle will be held for $3500, $2000 and $1000 gift certificates. All proceeds benefit the Blessing Cup Storehouse. All bikes and vehicles welcome. Christian Life Centers Revival Christian Life Centers invites the public to a revival with J. Howard of Katy this Sunday and Sunday, Nov. 25. MONDAY, NOV. 19 Project Graduation Meeting Set Project Graduation meets Monday, Nov. 19 at 6 p.m. in the Myatt Elementary cafeteria. TUESDAY, NOV. 20 Public Invited to WCJC's Speak Out! WCJC public speaking students from Dr. Mary Austin Newman's and Mary Alexander's classes will host Speak Out! on Tuesday, Nov. 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the Horton Foote Theatre in the Duson-Hansen Fine Arts Building on the Wharton campus. Students will present on topics of career fields. Dr. Paul Spellman, WCJC chair of the Division of Communications and Fine Arts, will introduce the speeches. The Sylvan and Betty Miori speech awards will conclude the program. Speak Out! Is a free event. Community Thanksgiving Service Coming An El Campo Community Thanksgiving Service will be held at First Baptist Church, 210 Depot, at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20. Those who wish may bring a canned good donation for the Blessing Cup and/or a cash donation for the local Salvation Army. COMING SOON Veterans Service Office Hours The office of Wharton County Veterans Service Officer Harvey H. Stelzel Jr. is open every Tuesday and Wednesday during November. Office hours are 7:30 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m. The office is located at 1017 N. Alabama Road in Wharton. Phone 532-1311. Holiday Garbage Collection Schedule The Thanksgiving garbage pickup schedule is as follows: usual service on Monday, Nov. 19 and Tuesday, Nov. 20. Thursday, residential service will be picked up on Wednesday, Nov. 21 and Friday residential service will be usual service. Thursday, Nov. 22 will be Thanksgiving Holiday, no pickup. Containerized commercial garbage service will not change. No bulky/brush pickup this week. Palacios Main Street Market Days Palacios Main Street Market Days will be Saturday, Nov. 24 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Railroad Park in Palacios. ECISD Gifted and Talented Program El Campo ISD will conduct a parent awareness meeting to provide information about the Gifted and Talented Program and the characteristics of gifted students. This K-12 informational meeting is being offered at Hutchins Elementary in the cafeteria Monday, Nov. 26 at 6 p.m. The deadline for accepting kindergarten nominations is Friday, Nov. 16. BEEs Sell Decorative Street Lamps Let's continue to beautify the downtown El Campo area with decorative street lamps, available from the BEEs. They will be placed on either corner around Walgreen's. Breakfast With Santa In Taiton The Pilot Club of El Campo is hosting its 5th Annual Breakfast with Santa at the St. John Catholic Church Parish Hall in Taiton on Sunday, Dec. 1 from 8:30-11:30 a.m. Breakfast tickets are $4 donation. Photographs with Santa will be by Jay Saucedo. Raffle tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. Quilt tickets are $5 each and only 500 sold. 20th Annual Christmas Mall The El Campo Chamber of Commerce will host its 20th Annual Christmas Mall at the El Campo Civic Center Saturday, Dec. 1 and Sunday, Dec. 2. Register For Christmas Parade Christmas Around the World is the theme for this year's lighted Christmas Parade at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6. Entry forms are available at the Chamber of Commerce. Derby Dolls Sell Engraved Bricks The Derby Doll Booster Club is selling engraved bricks to be displayed in front of the new practice gym on the high school campus. These bricks may have your name, class, organization or business on them. They can also be in honor of someone, in memory of someone, a current or past student. Order forms may also be obtained from any Derby Doll member.
WCYF Roaster Orders Needed Any 4-H or FFA member interested in raising Roasters for the 2008 WCYF must order their Roasters by Wednesday, Nov. 21 at a cost of $1.35 per bird. There is a minimum of 10 birds per exhibitor, maximum of 30 birds. Exhibitors in the same family must order under their own name. Entry cards are available at the El Campo Chamber of Commerce, Wharton County Extension Office, East Bernard Library and the Fair Office. Please call the Fair Office at 677-3350 for more information. The WCYF office will be closed for Thanksgiving Nov. 22-23. |
