WCEC linemen demonstrate electrical safety to 4-H group Hillje-Louise 4-H Club members met Monday evening at the Wharton County Electric Co-op. President Kelsey Supak called the meeting to order. Megan Socha led the Pledge of Allegiance and Marla Tompkins recited the 4-H pledge. Sara Weathers led the parents' pledge. Socha followed with the treasurer's report for the month. Weathers welcomed new Clover Kid members Justin Brown, Kourtney Vitera and Brianna Dorotik, and new member Marissa Brown and parents Donna Brown and Kem Vitera. Marla Tompkins reported on the junior fair board and their ad sales for the fair catalog. Weathers then talked about the county food show held Nov. 3. Abbie Holder was congratulated on her placement in this event. She will advance to district in Cuero on Dec. 1. Members contributed items for a Thanksgiving basket for a needy family, which will be coordinated by member Colleen Mauch and parent Randa Mauch. The club discussed their annual Christmas party in December and plans will be finalized for this event. Linemen Richard Clark and Tim Bohuslar of Wharton County Electric Co-op presented a demonstration on electrical safety. They showed how electricity reacts with items such as the uniform shirt a lineman wears, a nylon shirt, clean rope, foil balloon and a tree branch and stressed the importance of reporting any downed lines to the company and avoiding fallen lines. Members also had the opportunity to put on lineman's gloves and examine damaged gloves. Important dates were announced. The junior fair board meeting will be Monday, Nov. 19 and roaster ordering deadline is Wednesday, Nov. 21. |
