Garwood Elementary students honor local veterans The program began by welcoming veterans in attendance. The welcome was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence. A group of students- Tina Till, Alex Kucera, Georgeanne Llanes, Khadijah Robinson, Destinea Williams, Amy Clark and Anna McConnell- sang the National Anthem. The following band students sounded "Taps" on their trumpets: Jared Kaster, Dylan Drlik, Georgeanne Llanes and Josh Korenek. The history of Veterans Day was read by Kelsey Danklefs. Allyssa Krpec, Destinea Williams, Mersedes Saenz, Emily Mahalitc and Kaycie Rathburn read poems and cards that were written for the veterans. Mrs. Mascheck's third grade and Mrs. Radley's fourth grade classes presented a thank-you poem. Mrs. Richter's eighth grade class presented a Power Point presentation about Veterans Day. As the ceremony concluded, Mrs. Schneider's kindergarten class gave each veteran a red, white and blue pinwheel and Mrs. Boenisch's class colored pictures with thank you notes for each of the veterans. Students gave each veteran a handshake and a thank you. All of the veterans were then invited to the cafeteria for a reception. Veterans in attendance were Charlie Pavlovsky, Lydia Cooper, Raul Olvera, Joe L. Popp, Lawrence Berger, Clement Korenek, Frank Popp, Lawrence Pavlu, Robert Schiurring, Booker T. Dabney, Alfred Prihoda and Lawrence Shimek. |
