CDA holds candlelight service for deceased Members of Court Our Lady of the Rosary No. 1595 of Nada met Tuesday evening at St. Mary's parish hall in Nada. Prior to the meeting a candlelight service and memorial Mass for deceased members of the Nada court was held. Each deceased member was remembered with a candle placed before the statue of the Blessed Mother. The Holy Mass was celebrated by Father Tony Boateng-Mensah. Organist for the service was Patty Jean Stephens of Eagle Lake. Coordinator Bernita Korenek was assisted by Ernestine Schneider, Marilyn Popp and Janie Mae Popp. Gift bearers were Barbara Leopold and Marilyn Popp. The meeting was called to order by Regent Anita Meismer. She welcomed District Deputy Darice Miksch of Columbus. The pledge to the U.S. and Texas flags was led by legislative chairwoman Betty Leopold. Rose Staff stated that baskets are being prepared to be delivered to the elderly and shut-ins in the area. Virginia Pavlovsky was elected as recording secretary. She will fill the unexpired term of Katie Jo Kunz who tendered her resignation from the position. The court received an invitation to the multi-district meeting on Saturday, Jan. 19 at Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Wallis beginning at 8 a.m. There will be a reception of new members at 9:30 a.m. It was reported that Father Joe Vrana, court chaplain, has had successful hip surgery and is recuperating at his home in East Bernard. Members then heard from Father Tony Boateng-Mensah, who gave a brief history of himself. He plans to stay in the United States for a few years and then return to his native home. He has spent several years in London, England and has been an ordained Catholic priest since 1987. He served as an army chaplain for six years. He described the residents of the Nada/Garwood communities as "being very hospitable and all have made him feel very welcome." The meeting was closed with a prayer and refreshments prepared and served by hostesses Monica Lehrer, Betty Leopold, Clara Lobpries, Katie Jo Kunz, Barbara Leopold, Pauline Leopold and Betty Schiurring. Regent Meismer noted the next meeting will be held Dec. 11 at 7 p.m. with a Rosary prayer service followed by the meeting at 7:30 p.m. |
