Tipster leads police to 'Most Wanted'
By BRENDA SOMMER bsommer@leader-news.com

RAY SOSA
It took only a few hours for a tipster to spot El Campo's "Most Wanted" felon and for police to arrest the man.

Ray Sosa, 44, was featured in Wednesday's El Campo Leader-News as El Campo's "Most Wanted." Most Wanted is an ongoing program of the Leader-News, the El Campo Police Department and West Wharton County Crime Stoppers.

The Most Wanted program pays cash rewards for information leading to the arrest and grand jury indictment of people charged with felonies.

According to El Campo Police Department Officer Cindy Howell, who is also the Crime Stoppers coordinator, a tipster called the day the paper came out with information on Sosa's whereabouts.

He was arrested without incident at 2:10 p.m. at a local restaurant.

Sosa was wanted on a warrant for theft of property for allegedly stealing a circular saw from a home at 206 Tegner, and also wanted by district court on a warrant for violating his probation on a conviction for burglary of a habitation.

He was transferred to Wharton County Jail the day he was arrested.

Crime Stoppers and the El Campo Police Department's "Most Wanted" are two programs that let anonymous callers solve crimes and earn cash rewards.

Informants do not have to give their names: They're given a code number, and no tapes or Caller I.D. are used. Anyone with information about any crime should call Crime Stoppers 24 hours a day at 543- 8477.
