Maceks chosen for fall yard honors
By QUALA MATOCHA lifestyle@leader-news.com

L-N Photo by Quala Matocha Serene Setting Sitting on her front porch, Nitaya Macek of Louise loves the lush tropical ferns and flowers in this area of her yard, which includes two plants from her native country of Thailand. This is the place she comes to each morning for a cup of coffee and to read her Bible. She and husband Clarence were chosen for Louise's fall yard distinction.
Each fall the Louise beautification committee recognizes an outstanding yard for the fall and spring seasons. Using the assistance of master gardeners from Edna, the recipients for the fall are Clarence and Nitaya Macek, 406 S. Colorado St.

The Maceks have lived in their present home for the past three years. Since then they built up the already existing flower beds by adding four loads of dirt. They also added flower beds and trees.

"I think it is wonderful and great that our home was picked for this award," said Nitaya.

Among the many flowers, ferns, hibiscus and shrubs are a couple of plants from her native country of Thailand. Nitaya has lived in the U.S. for 38 years now.

The couple plans to add five more flower beds as well as shrubs and possibly a fence.

Her advice on maintaining a yard is pretty simple.

"If you love your flowers, take care of them," she said. "They will love you back and grow."

The front yard is the couple's favorite area because of all the trees and the shade they provide as well as plants and flowers. It is here that Nitaya starts her day off by sitting on the front porch with a cup of coffee to read her Bible.

Seasonal plants include azaleas, Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow and ferns.
