ECYF claims super wins Fans of El Campo Youth Football refer to the kids who play as future Ricebirds. If that is the case, Ricebird football could be strong for years to come. El Campo can claim two championship football teams this year. The Junior Red and Pee Wee White football teams both won the Super Bowl for the Mid-Coast Youth Football League, held Nov. 17 at El Campo Middle School. The Junior Red squad, comprised of 8- and 9- yard-old boys, shut out Ganado 27-0 to take home the trophy. The championship was the perfect end to an undefeated season in which they outscored their opponents 269-44. The Pee Wee White team, the youngest team in the league with 6- and 7-year-old boys, defeated Edna 31-27 for their championship win. Both teams qualified for the title game with wins Nov. 10 in the semifinals. |
