All-Wharton County volleyball announced
El Campo, Louise earn first-team and individual awards

      After and exciting volleyball season, El Campo and Louise received some top honors on the 2008 El Campo Leader- News and Wharton Journal-Spectator All-Wharton County Volleyball Teams. The Lady 'Birds and Lady Hornets earned 14 total positions on this year's all-county roster.

EC Ricebirds pushing for tourney title

      The Ricebirds made a great start to the Leroy Miksch Memorial Basketball Tournament in Needville Thursday. A pair of back-to-back wins over Danbury and Hitchcock put the Ricebirds in first place in Pool A as they await the championship game Saturday.

East teams complete all-county

      Girls from Wharton, Boling and East Bernard also made up some key parts of the El Campo Leader-News and Wharton Journal-Spectator All-Wharton County volleyball team. For the second year in a row, Wharton's Heather Reynolds garnered Most Valuable Player honors.

ST. PHILIP BASKETBALL UPDATE
      A new season has begun for St. Philip and the Pioneers started it with a few great games. The Pioneers A team moved to 3-0 on the basketball season after an easy win over Columbus St. Anthony. The B team also claimed a win in an exciting game.
