Three straight wins have the Lady 'Birds undefeated at 6-0 for a great start to the basketball season.

Lady 'Birds 52, St. Joseph 44

Strong defense helped El Campo outscore St. Joseph in the first three quarters and secured a win Tuesday.

Kela Johnson led the Lady 'Birds with four steals in a solid defensive performance that netted 14 total team steals.

After an 11-10 lead in the first quarter, the Lady 'Birds rolled in the second to take a 29-19 lead into the half.

El Campo moved ahead 41-28 by the end of the third quarter and backed off a bit to end the game.

St. Joseph outscored the Lady 'Birds 16-11 in the fourth quarter to cut El Campo's final lead to 52-44.

Angel Brooks proved to be a major strength for El Campo. She pulled down 10 rebounds en route to scoring 22 points. Ashley Thomas, who made 3 of 3 free throws, was the only other Lady 'Bird to finish in double-digit scoring with 10 points.

Lady 'Birds 51, Columbus 23

Ebonee Spencer, Ashley Brooks and Thomas each finished with more than 10 points in El Campo's easy win Nov. 21.

The Lady 'Birds were held to 9 points in both of the first two quarters of the game, but good defense made 18 points at the half plenty.

In the first quarter, all 9 points came through Ashley Brooks. She scored 7 and connected with Spencer for the other 2 points on an assist.

El Campo held Columbus to 7 first-half points for a considerable lead at halftime.

Columbus' defense could not contain El Campo in the second half. The Lady 'Birds scored 18 points in the third and 15 in the fourth quarter to finish with a 51-23 win.

Lady 'Birds 46, Victoria Memorial 43

El Campo hung on for a close win in Victoria Nov. 20.

The Lady Vipers moved ahead 16-12 after one quarter of play, but the Lady 'Birds answered in the second quarter.

El Campo outscored Victoria 11-9 to cut the lead to 25-23 at halftime.

The third quarter was when the Lady 'Birds took the lead. They topped Victoria 11-7 for a 34- 32 lead with one quarter left to play.

The fourth was back and fourth, but the Lady 'Birds had the lead as time was running out.

With 6 seconds left and a 1-point lead, El Campo was faced with getting the ball through Victoria's strong full-court press.

While Johnson was working the ball in, she was fouled and went immediately to the freethrow line. She hit both shots and put El Campo ahead by 3 and earned the final score of 46-43.

Up next for the Lady 'Birds are a pair of tournaments.
