The philanthropic contributions of Adolph Hanslik continue with the announcement of a $100,000 matching donation to the Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center's capital campaign for construction of a new library museum archives building.
Adolph Rudolph Hanslik was born on March 22, 1917 in Breslau, a community near Hallettsville, to Frank and Mary Hanslik and died on May 21, 2007 at the age of 90.
He was a successful businessman who exported Texas cotton and was active in many organizations including the Cotton Association, the Lubbock Cotton Exchange and the Lubbock Exchange and the Lubbock Club. He served on the boards of the Salvation Army, Goodwill Industries, United Way, St. Paul's Church on the Plains, American Cotton Shippers Association, State National Bank, Lubbock Chamber of Commerce, Lubbock Lions Club, Texas International Cotton School, University Medical Center Foundation in Lubbock and the Texas Tech President's Council. He was a member of the Lavaca County Czech Heritage Society of Texas.

He was also a pecan farmer, philanthropist, devoted family man and father of four. He served his country in the Army Signal Corps during World War II on the European front. In 1946, after his military service was complete, he interviewed and went to work as a cotton buyer in the Hallettsville area until moving to Lubbock in 1953. There he founded the Adolph Hanslik Cotton Company and worked in this capacity for 50 years. A big break came for Hanslik when he sold cotton overseas.
The company is now run by his nephew, Ed Hanslik of Austin and is called Texas Cotton Marketing.
"We are pleased to be able to contribute to the TCHCC effort and look forward to your great plans coming to fruition," Edward Hanslik said.
The $100,000 contribution fulfilled a pledge to match $200,000 in donations to the capital campaign that began on Oct. 13, 2007. An additional pledge of $100,000 was made to match new donations and pledges of $400,000 within a three-year period.
"We are deeply grateful for this donation to support the building of a library museum archives building that will preserve and promote Czech heritage," Retta Chandler, president of TCHCC, said.
