LHS wins first home match The Hornets' first home game of the 2007-08 basketball season was a success. Louise hosted the Goliad Tigers Friday and finished with a 57-50 win. Matthew Vasquez gave the Hornets a boost with 26 total points on the night while several other Hornets scored in single digits to secure the victory. Both teams went back and forth through the first quarter. Goliad pushed the Hornets, but Louise came out on top 16-13. Another competitive quarter kept the game close at halftime with Louise in the lead 30-25. It was the third quarter that delivered Louise the win. While working on ball movement, the Hornets tallied 13 points. The defense was able to stick with Goliad and prevent a high-scoring quarter. They covered the Tigers well and held them to their only single-digit quarter, at 7 points. Goliad came back in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough to push the Hornets to the loss column. The Tigers topped Louise 18-14 in the final quarter of play, but Louise finished with a 57-50 win. Louise hosted Hallettsville Sacred Heart last night and will travel to compete in the Goliad Tournament, held Dec. 13, 14 and 15. After the tournament, Louise will have an open period for semester exams and then get ready for the Rice Tournament Dec. 27 and 28. The Hornets will not play another home game until after a Jan. 8 match with Waelder. They will return home Jan. 11 to host Woodsboro, only two games away from starting district competition. |
