Genealogical society meeting scheduled for January 2008 The annual membership meeting and luncheon of the Texas Czech Genealogical Society will be held Saturday, Jan. 26 at the Caldwell Civic Center, 103 Presidential Corridor Hwy. 21 West at North Main in Caldwell. The day will include entertainment by the Taylor Czech Chorus Musicians and the SPJST youth dancers. Activities begin at 9 a.m. with registration, coffee and kolaches being served. Special presentations will include "Invitation to Cat Spring: From European Tyranny to Freedom to Civil War" by Mary Frances Chupick Bennett; and "Czech Pioneers in the Republic of Texas" by Patrick Janis. Also included in the day's activities will be a traditional Czech lunch, a video and display of the Frenstat, Czech Republic Museum, the Christmas ornament factory in Vsetin, Czech Republic video, a display showing the early Czech communities in Texas, along with a number of early photos of the residents, a brief business meeting, door prizes and presentation of the member of the year award. Cost to attend is $10 per person through Jan. 15. After that date or at the door, the cost will be $14. Those planning to attend should respond to Sallie Wendt, 361 N.
