City Offers Aquatic Center Discount

The City of El Campo is offering a 20 percent discount off Aquatic Center memberships purchased as Christmas presents. Despite the fact that weather has been a little cool lately, the facility is open, and members are using the lap and recreation pools as well as the large hot tub. Water aerobics and swimming lessons are also offered.

Selling Their Way To Washington El Campo Middle School 8th graders raising money for a trip to Washington, D.C. this summer will have a bake sale in front of Wal-Mart and Walgreen's today starting at 7 a.m. These fundraisers are not sponsored by the ECISD.

Christmas Gift Wrapping Available The 8th grade class members of St. Philip School who are going to Washington will be glad to gift wrap your Christmas gifts today from 1-5 p.m. at J-Brew Coffee Bar. Donations only.

Palacios Market Days Today Palacios Market Days will be held today from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Railroad Park, at the corner of 6th and Main streets.

Dancing Around the Christmas Tree Danevang Children's Christmas program and Dancing Around the Christmas Tree will be today at 6:30 p.m. at the Danevang Lutheran Church. Refreshments and a visit from Santa will follow.

Christmas Eve Candlelight Service Danevang Lutheran Church will have a Candlelight Communion Carol Service Monday, Dec. 24 at 4 p.m. Everyone is invited.

FBC Hosts Christmas Eve Service First Baptist Church will host a Christmas Eve Candlelight Service Monday, Dec. 24 at 6 p.m. The public is invited to join in this program of scripture, song and special music.

FCC Candlelight Communion Service First Christian Church, 205 W. West St. and Fahrenthold will host a Candlelight and Communion Service on Monday, Dec. 24 at 6 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

Candlelight Service And Carols St. Paul United Methodist Church at 211 E. Third will have the Christmas Eve Service, Monday, Dec. 24 at 5:30 p.m. It will be a traditional candlelight service with scripture lessons and Christmas Carols. Everyone is invited.

Holiday Solid Waste Schedule The week of Dec. 24 Monday will be usual service, Tuesday, Dec. 25 will be a Holiday. Wednesday, Dec. 26 will be Tuesday pickup. Thursday and Friday will be usual service. The same will follow for the week of Dec. 31. Tuesday will be a Holiday and Tuesday pickup will be Wednesday, Jan. 2. The rest of week is usual service.

E.A. Greer Scholarship Fundraiser There will be a New year's Eve Bash Scholarship Fundraiser sponsored by the E.A. Green National Alumni and Ex-Students Association at the VFW Hall Saturday, Dec. 29 from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. Tickets will be $10 at the door. Call Evelyn Williams for more information.

Hans and Inge Performance The community is invited to attend a special storytelling performance presented by Pastor Laird and Winnie Engle at Danevang Lutheran Community Hall on Wednesday, Jan. 2 at 6:45 p.m. Pastor Engle portrays the famous children's author, Hans Christian Andersen, and Winnie plays Inge. Everyone is invited to the community meal and singing at 6 p.m. There is no charge for meal or performance.

ECHS Senior Class of '07 Yearbook Home for the Holidays? Stop by the ECHS office and pick up your 2007 yearbook! The high school office will be open after Jan. 2. If you have not yet purchased one, extra copies are available for $70.

Help Needed Restoring 1952 Tractor The Louise FFA Senior Ag Mechanics Team is restoring a 1952 John Deere Model G tractor donated by Keith Bain. Parts and funds are needed to restore the project in order to be ready to show at the Wharton County Youth Fair. If anyone can help, please write to the Louise FFA, P.O. Fried Chicken Dinner and Raffle St. Philip Youth will sponsor their annual Fried Chicken Dinner and Raffle on Sunday, Jan. 6 at 11 a.m. with plates to go only at the Parish Hall on Depot St. Tickets are available from any high school CCE Student or St. Philip Rectory. Dinner to Honor Pastor Laird Engle The public is invited to an enchilada dinner honoring Pastor Laird Engle on Jan. 6 at the Danevang Community Hall following the 10 a.m. worship service. Pastor Engle is retiring, and Jan. 6 will be his last service at Danevang Lutheran.

Habitat For Humanity Meeting The West Wharton County Habitat for Humanity steering committee will meet Tuesday, Jan. 8 and Tuesday, Jan. 29 at 7 p.m. at the Fellowship Hall of First Christian Church in El Campo. Spay/Neuter Assistance Available The Matagorda County SPCA has a program to help financially disadvantaged people in Wharton, Jackson, Matagorda and the southern part of Colorado County get their dogs or cats spayed or neutered. BEEs Sell Decorative Street Lamps Let's continue to beautify the downtown El Campo area with decorative street lamps, available from the BEEs. They will be placed on either corner around Walgreen's. To purchase a lamp or for information call Carolyn Kelly at 543-2397 or Ruth Sacco at 543-5339. Would make a great Christmas present for that "hard to shop for" person.

Leader-News New Year's Deadlines Your El Campo Leader-News must have all pages for the Wednesday, Jan. 2 edition to the press by noon New Year's Eve, Monday, Dec. 31. Therefore all news items and advertising must be submitted the week before. Thank you for helping us to get the paper out while meeting these early deadlines.

To All WCYF Broiler Exhibitors All interested WCYF exhibitors must order their broilers by Thursday, Jan. 3 at a cost of $1.35 per bird; minimum order of 25 birds per exhibitor, maximum order of 50 birds. Exhibitors in the same family must order under their own name. A Broiler Entry Card must be completed and sent to the Fair Office on or postmarked by the deadline date. Entry cards are available at the El Campo Chamber of Commerce and the Fair Office. Payment is required with order and the $15 entry fee must also accompany the order. Fair Office: 677-3350.

To All WCYF Turkey Exhibitors Turkeys ordered by WCYF exhibitors will be delivered on Tuesday, Jan. 15. Pick up birds at the Crescent Fairgrounds Main office Complex between 4-6 p.m. Be sure to have your pens, feed, water containers, lights, etc. ready to receive your baby poults. Please bring your own box/container to carry your birds home in! Fair Office: 677-3350.

Looking For a Christmas Gift? If you are looking for a Christmas gift for those who you just don't know what to get, consider buying a brick in their honor. The Derby Doll Booster Club is still selling engraved bricks to be placed in front of the new practice gym on the high school campus. These bricks may be in memory of someone of in honor of someone who is a past or present student at the high school. Bricks range in price from $40-$50.
