Cookbook includes recipes from mid-1800s The George Ranch Historical Park is proud to present "Culinary Connections: One Hundred Years of Historic Meals" just in time for the holidays. The cookbook is a collection of traditional recipes spanning more than 100 years of Texas history. Recipes are distinguished by time period and include such delights as 1830s blackberry cobbler, 1860s rosemary roasted chicken or 1930s barbeque beef brisket. "Food is a universal language," says Nick Castelberg, lead interpreter for historical cooking. "Our goal is to create new memories for our guests and introduce a new audience to the family table, sitting together as our ancestors did, sharing our lives and good food." The cookbook is a culmination of historical recipes prepared and served during the historic meals program held on Saturdays at the George Ranch Historical Park. The book also includes historical food facts. With more than 42 spiralbound, full-color pages, it makes a great Christmas gift. Cookbooks are $10 and available at the Dry Creek General Store located at the George Ranch Historical Park visitors center. The park and general store are open Tuesday through Saturday, 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. For more information, call 281-343-0218. George Ranch is located at 10215 FM 762, Richmond. |
