Thanks to everyone for helping us to get the paper out while meeting early holiday deadlines.TODAY, DEC. 29 Boys & Girls Club Holiday Hours The Boys & Girls Club of El Campo will be closed Dec. 31 and Jan. 2. The club reopens to youth for the after-school program on Jan. 3 from 3-7 p.m. Museum Closed For Christmas/New Year The El Campo Museum will be closed until Jan. 1 and reopens on Wednesday, Jan. 2. Aquatic Center Also Closed The El Campo Aquatic Center will be closed Monday and Tuesday, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, but will return to a normal schedule Wednesday. New Year's Eve Bash Fundraiser There will be a New Year's Eve Bash Scholarship Fundraiser sponsored by the E.A. Greer National Alumni and Ex-Students Association at the VFW Hall today, Dec. 29 from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. Tickets will be $10 at the door. Call Evelyn Williams for more information. WEDNESDAY, JAN. 2 Hans and Inge Performance The community is invited to attend a special story-telling performance presented by Pastor Laird and Winnie Engle at Danevang Lutheran Community Hall Wednesday, Jan. 2 at 6:45 p.m. Pastor Engle portrays the famous children's author, Hans Christian Andersen, and Winnie plays Inge. Everyone is invited to the community meal and singing at 6 p.m. There is no charge for meal or performance. DON'T FOR GET To All WCYF Broiler Exhibitors All interested WCYF exhibitors must order their broilers by Thursday, Jan. 3 at a cost of $1.35 per bird; minimum order of 25 birds per exhibitor, maximum order of 50 birds. Exhibitors in the same family must order under their own name. A broiler entry card must be completed and sent to the Fair office on or postmarked by the deadline date. Entry cards are available at the El Campo Chamber of Commerce and the Fair office. Payment is required with order and the $15 entry fee must also accompany the order. Fair Office: 677-3350. Labor of Love Commodities Pickup Those who have applied for the Labor of Love program may pick up their commodities at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church Friday, Jan. 4 at 10:30 a.m. Erwin/Williamson Account Set Up Funds have been established at The First State Banks of Louise and El Campo for Robbie Erwin and Garrett Williamson. All proceeds will be used for medical bills. They were injured in a Christmas Eve automobile accident. Account Set Up For Medical Expenses An account to help with medical expenses has been set up for Tommy Johnson Sr. at Commercial State Bank. Also a benefit dance, stew supper and auction will be held Saturday, Feb. 9 starting at 4 p.m. at Muldoon's Saloon and Steakhouse. Tommy Johnson is a retired Texas Game Warden and current Special Ranger for the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raiser's Association. Raffle tickets are available at the Wharton County Sheriff's Office, Ryan Services at 543-3703, R&R Printing, R&M Firearms, D-A-M Services or at the Farmers Coop of El Campo. AARP Meeting Jan. 9 AARP Chapter 1419 will meet Wednesday, Jan. 9 at the El Campo Library. Lunch will be at noon and meeting will follow at 1 p.m. Call 543-3514 about change of place or other information. CPR and FAB Classes The American Red Cross will host the following Health and Safety courses: Adult class on Tuesday, Jan. 8 from 6-10 p.m., Infant and Child on Tuesday, Jan. 15 from 5- 10 p.m. and First Aid Basic will be Tuesday, Jan. 22 from 6-10 p.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 3000 9th Street in Bay City. The cost of each course is $22. Certification for CPR classes is valid for one year. Minimum of six participants required. For information call the American Red Cross office at 979-245-3056. Senior Class of '07 Yearbook Home for the holidays? Stop by the ECHS office and pick up your 2007 yearbook. The high school office will be open after Jan. 2. If you have not yet purchased one, extra copies are available for $70. Help Needed Restoring 1952 Tractor The Louise FFA Senior Ag Mechanics Team is restoring a 1952 John Deere Model G tractor donated by Keith Bain. Parts and funds are needed to restore the project in order to be ready to show at the Wharton County Youth Fair. If anyone can help please call or send mail to Louise FFA, P.O. Fried Chicken Dinner and Raffle St. Philip Youth will sponsor their annual fried chicken dinner and raffle Sunday, Jan. 6 at 11 a.m. with plates to-go only at the parish hall on Depot Street. Dinner to Honor Pastor Laird Engle The public is invited to an enchilada dinner honoring Pastor Laird Engle Jan. 6 at the Danevang Community Hall following a 10 a.m. worship service. Pastor Engle is retiring and Jan. 6 will be his last service at Danevang Lutheran. Habitat For Humanity Meeting The West Wharton County Habitat for Humanity steering committee meets Tuesday, Jan. 8 and Tuesday, Jan. 29 at 7 p.m. at the Fellowship Hall of First Christian Church in El Campo. To All WCYF Turkey Exhibitors Turkeys ordered by WCYF exhibitors will be delivered Tuesday, Jan. 15. Pick up birds at the Crescent Fairgrounds main office complex between 4-6 p.m. Be sure to have your pens, feed, water containers, lights, etc. ready to receive your baby poults. Spay/Neuter Assistance Available The Matagorda County SPCA has a program to help financially disadvantaged people in Wharton, Jackson, Matagorda and the southern part of Colorado County get their dogs or cats spayed or neutered. BEEs Sell Decorative Street Lamps Let's continue to beautify the downtown El Campo area with decorative street lamps, available from the BEEs. They will be placed on either corner around Walgreen's. To purchase a lamp or for information call Carolyn Kelly at 543-2397 or Ruth Sacco at 543-5339. Veterans Service Officer Hours The office of Wharton County Veterans Service Officer Harvey H. Derby Doll Boosters Selling Bricks The Derby Doll Booster Club is still selling engraved bricks to be placed in front of the new practice gym on the high school campus. These bricks may be in memory of someone of in honor of someone who is a past or present student at the high school. Bricks range in price from $40-$50.
