John Calvert

John Edward Calvert, 67, of El Campo, died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2007.

He was born Sept. 5, 1940 in St. Louis, Mo. to Jessee Benton and Mildred Martha Ashley Calvert.

Survivors include his wife, Hattie Mae Calvert of El Campo; stepchildren, Grady Lee Penley Jr. of Corpus Christi, Jack Penley of Sugar Land, Harold Penley of Friendswood, Genette Carpenter of Port Lavaca, Joyce Kahanek of El Campo, Patsy Hart of Hope and Dianne Shaw of Cuero; brother, Bill Calvert of Colorado; half brother, Harry Lafe of Virginia; sister, Nancy Piel of California; 19 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and seven great-greatgrandchildren.

Funeral service was held Thursday, Dec. 27 at 2 p.m. at Wheeler Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Rick DuBroc officiating. Burial followed at Garden of Memories Cemetery under the direction of Wheeler Funeral Home.
