Sohrt & Kana exchange vows at St. John's Catholic Church

Holly Marie Sohrt and Dustin Wade Kana were united in marriage at 1:30 p.m., Dec. 29, 2007 at St. John's Catholic Church in New Taiton. The Rev. Anthony Boateng-Mensah and Deacon Edward Wendel performed the double ring ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of August and Debbie Sohrt of El Campo. Parents of the groom are Gary and Christine Kana and Glenn and Tyann Buenger, all of El Campo.
Traditional Christmas decorations adorned the church. Red poinsettias and white lighted trees graced the back altar. The nativity scene was decorated with red poinsettias, Christmas greenery and white lights. An arrangement in memory of the couple's deceased grandparents was placed in front of the statue of the Blessed Mother.
Music was provided by Alicia Kulhanek, organist; and Leigh Ann Brune, trumpeter. Selections included "Canon in D," "Trumpet Voluntary," "Angels We Have Heard on High" and "O Come All Ye Faithful."
Escorted by her father, the bride wore an elegant white silk taffeta gown by Casablanca. The bodice and waistline were accentuated by gathers and small rows of beads and crystals were delicately scattered across the gown. Satin-covered buttons lined the back and extended down the chapellength train. To compliment her gown, the bride wore an elbow-length veil with crystal pins scattered throughout her hair. Her bouquet consisted of hand-tied calla lilies.
The bride was attended Brittany Cerny of El Campo, friend of the bride, as maid of honor and bridesmaids, Lindsay Sohrt of Bryan, sister in-law of the bride; Hailey Leopold and Abby Leopold of El Campo, cousins of the bride; Becca Polasek of El Campo, friend of the bride; Megan Supak of El Campo, cousin of the bride; and Brooke Buenger of Lake Jackson, step-sister of the groom.
Attendants wore black floorlength gowns of various designs. Their bouquets consisted of protea, Star of Bethlehem and Christmas greenery.
Flower girls were Alexandra Sohrt, the bride's niece; and Gracie Naquin, cousin of the groom.
Coby Kana of El Campo, brother of the groom, served as best man. Groomsmen were Matthew Sohrt of Bryan, brother of the bride; Blake Roehl of El Campo, Josh Valentine of El Campo, Kyle Jahn of Yoakum and Mikey Mobley of El Campo, friends of the groom; and Blaze Kopecky of El Campo, stepbrother of the groom.
Altar servers were Jeremy and Jacob Supak, cousins of the bride. Witnesses were Rebecca Leopold and James Kana. Program attendants were Sarah Supak, cousin of the bride; and Tori Koenig, cousin of the groom.
A reception, dinner and dance followed at the Taiton Community Center. The grand march was led by Mr. and Mrs. R.J. Strnadel. Members of the house party were Megan Novak, Heather Pierce, Wendy Pierce and Rachel Schwab.
Rehearsal dinner was hosted by the groom's parents.
The bride is a 2004 graduate of El Campo High School and is currently attending Texas A&M University in College Station. She is a veterinary technician at Hwy. 30 Vet Clinic in College Station. The groom is a 2004 graduate of El Campo High School and also attending Texas A&M University in College Station. He is a mechanic at Texas A&M Transportation Services in College Station.
After a wedding trip to Montego Bay, Jamaica, the couple will reside in College Station.
