Police offer reward in coin theft

A cash reward is available for information on a burglary that cost an El Campo resident his coin collection.

Police say the home at 614 Peach was broken into sometime between 12:01 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5 and 8:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7.

"The home was ransacked," said West Wharton County Crime Stoppers Coordinator and ECPD Officer Cindy Howell.

Bur- glars stole a rare coin collection worth about $4,000. That collection included gold dollars, Indian head nickels, Liberty dimes and silver quarters including two full rolls of silver quarters.

"Those items were in a locked box that was forced open," Howell said.

The suspects forcibly entered the home through a screened porch door and left through a window.

"If you noticed any suspicious activity around this residence, please call Crime Stoppers," Howell said. "You will remain anonymous
