Football Contest complete With the LSU Tigers claiming the BCS Championship game over Ohio State Monday night in New Orleans, the final installment of the 2007 Leader-News Football Contest comes to a close. Several entered the college bowl game edition of the contest, but only five were able to stand in competition for first, second or third place. The week's champion was easy to determine. Ronnie Johnson beat everyone by only missing two of the total 18 games. The only games he missed were the Texas Bowl featuring Houston and TCU and the Capital One Bowl where Michigan upset the Florida Gators. For finishing first, Johnson will receive a check of $25 and a $25 dine-in credit at El Campo's Pizza Hut. Second place went to Ricky Aldridge who missed only three contests. Along with the Capitol One and Texas bowls, Aldridge missed on the Brut Sun Bowl. Oregon surprised a lot of football fans with a win over the South Florida Bulls in that game. Aldridge wins a check of $15 for claiming second place. Three people tied for third place. Otto Slezinsky, Scott Rod and Ross Russell each missed four games, bringing Tiebreaker 1 into action. Once everything was tallied up, the prize went to Rod, who missed the BCS Championship, Capital One, Tostitos Fiesta and the Pacific Life Holiday Bowl. Though he missed on his guess of Arizona State upsetting the Texas Longhorns, he came closest to the game's total score of 86 points with a guess of 62. Rod will receive a check of $10 in the mail for finishing third in the contest's final week. |
