Wayne Baker

Wayne Baker, 79, of New Mexico, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2008.

He was born Aug. 31, 1928 in Cameron to Hadie Jackson and Goebel Baker. Mr. Baker was a veteran of the Korean war. Over his professional life, he served as director of public utilities in several communities in New Mexico and Texas including El Campo.

As the owner of Elco Construction and Development, he developed subdivisions and built custom homes in El Campo. He was also the original owner and president of Southwest Utilities Inc., with offices on the West Loop, until 1987.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Baker; daughter, Jane Adams; two granddaughters; and two great-grandsons.

Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 11 at 3:30 p.m. at Magdalena Community Church in Magdalena, N.M.
