Rev. F.G. Manning

The Rev. F.G. Manning, who pastored Mount Olive Baptist Church in El Campo for some 33 years, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008 at the age of 83.

He was born in Louisiana and has ministered in El Campo while living in Houston.

Rev. Manning single-handedly found an avenue for the Black Christian community to come together in El Campo by founding the Fifth Sunday Fellowship of Churches in 1988. The organization gives scholarships to youth who participate in a church fellowship. He served as the Fifth Sunday president since it was founded, and in 2006 was honored for his work with this organization.

Funeral services for Rev. Manning will be today, Saturday, Jan. 12 at noon at True Light Baptist Church, 7201 N. Main, Houston. The Rev. John Bowie will officiate.

Interment will be at the Houston National Cemetery on Monday, Jan. 14 at 11 a.m. under the direction of Carl Barnes Funeral Home in Houston.

Visitation was held Friday, Jan. 11 from noon to 3 p.m. at Mount Olive Baptist Church. A second viewing was held from 6-9 p.m. in the Titus & Timothy Barnes Cathedral Chapel at Carl Barnes Funeral Home.
