Twenty-four high schools will participate. There will be an informal question-andanswer session for anyone who would like to judge but is unsure how on Thursday, Jan. 17 from 7-8 p.m. at the high school seminar room. SUNDAY, JAN. 20 MLK Memorial Celebration The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Celebration is Sunday, Jan. 20 at 2:30 p.m. at Mother Zion Baptist Church, 112 Neals Lane (at Milam Street) in Wharton. Special guests are the Rev. E.L. Dawson and Progressive Baptist Church of El Campo, vocalist Debra Wilson of Houston, the Rev. Mickey Reynolds and Caney Creek Church, St. Stephens Missionary Baptist Church, Barrier Breakers Choir and also Wharton Boys & Girls Club Drill Team. Each church is asked to represent with $150 towards the MLK Scholarship Fund. Louise ATPE Sells Fried Chicken Plates The Louise ATPE hosts its annual fried chicken dinner Wednesday, Jan. 23 from 4:30-6 p.m. at Staff's Food Service. Open Horse Show at WCYF Boots & Bridle 4-H will be hosting an Open Horse Show Saturday, Jan. 26 at the Wharton County Youth Fair arena in Crescent. There will be 30 classes offered, including Western Pleasure, English Pleasure, Showmanship and Speed events. The three age divisions are 12 and under, 13-18 and 19 and over with high point belt buckles for all age divisions. Registration begins at 8 a.m. with events starting at 9 a.m. Fees are $10 per class or $50 for all day. Funds Raised For Ranger Tommy Johnson Sr. An account to help with medical expenses has been set up for Tommy Johnson Sr. at Commercial State Bank.
