Second-half struggles deliver game to BC

      Tuesday's basketball game with Bay City left the Lady 'Birds frustrated after a difficult loss. Going into the game, the Lady Blackcats were 3-0 in district while El Campo was 2-1. Clearly underdogs playing on an intimidating court, the Lady 'Birds gave a great effort early, but fell late 59-40.

Lady Hornets falter in first district game

      In a defensive struggle, the Lady Hornets fell 38-17 to Flatonia and started district 0-1. Despite the disappointing outcome, Head Coach Bryan Branch said his team was likely only a few plays away from winning. "If we make five more buckets, then we win that game fairly easily," Branch said.

LHS gets W, Barrera back playing ball

      The Hornets received a pair of big boosts in their game with Woodsboro Jan. 11. Louise has struggled to find wins so far this year due to a depleted basketball roster and tough schedule in pre-district. The Hornets got a win to improve to 5-10 on the season and had a key player rejoin the team.

Bay City no match for 'Birds
      The Ricebirds rebounded from a tough start in district play with a much-needed win Tuesday. In a game Head Coach Philip Spenrath practically referred to as a must-win, the 'Birds defeated Bay City 58-49. It was El Campo's first home game against a district opponent this season.

ELKS HOOP SHOOTERS ADVANCE TO DISTRICT
      El Campo's Elks Lodge called the 2008 Hoop Shoot a success. Held Jan. 12, youngsters from throughout the area came to Ricebird Gym to participate in the annual freethrow contest. The contest was divided into three categories by age for both boys and girls.
