El Campo's Elks Lodge called the 2008 Hoop Shoot a success.

Held Jan. 12, youngsters from throughout the area came to Ricebird Gym to participate in the annual freethrow contest.

The contest was divided into three categories by age for both boys and girls.

All six winners will move on to the district level of competition held Feb. 10 at Terry High School in Rosenberg.

The Elks are appreciative to El Campo ISD for the use of Ricebird Gym and basketballs. Specifically, they expressed gratitude to Athletic Director Bob Gillis, Assistant Principal Mark Freeman, Coach Philip Spenrath, volunteers Angela Fiala, Kaylan Gangl, Stephanie Korenek, Mid Coast Cable TV, KULP Radio and the El Campo Leader-News.
