Green Thumbs meet at Aulds' home Members of the Green Thumb Garden club met Wednesday, Jan. 16 at the home of Dayle Aulds. Mary Lou Birkner served as co-hostess. President Carolyn Goelzer led the meeting, noting 20 members were in attendance. Reports were given and approved. Under new business, a plant will be sent to Betty Konvicka on the loss of her husband. A program on plants was then given by Ruth Speckles. She advised now is the time to order bedding seeds, but not to plant until spring. To improve flower bed soil, she said to add banana peels, tea or coffee grounds. She gave other tips on caring for flowers and blooming plants. A new plant called osteospermums is a perennial and is drought resistant. It also likes full sun. Elsie Ilse gave the horticulture report on pansies. She advised it is not too late to plant these flowers. |
