LHS girls lose game to Shiner The Lady Hornets have had a tough start to their district basketball season. After falling to Flatonia 38-17 Jan. 15 in the first game, Louise has lost to Moulton and Shiner for an 0-3 start. The good news for Louise fans is that the team may be working out of their scoring slump. Louise fell to Moulton Jan. 18, 56-39, and to Shiner 58-67 Tuesday, consistently growing in their scoring. Moulton still featured plenty of missed shots, but the Shiner game featured stronger a Lady Hornet team than before. At the mid-way point through district competition, Louise could be improving just in time. The Lady Hornets will have two home games in the second half, the first came last night against Flatonia and the second will come Feb. 5 against Shiner to end the regular season. The Lady Hornets broke out for a good offensive effort againsth Shiner in a game they just fell short in. "We played well and finally got out of our offensive slump," Head Coach Bryan Branch said. "The only problem was, so did Shiner." At halftime, Louise was down 37-25 but focused for a comeback. Amber Bain came through with a layup and was fouled on the shot. She made the free throw to cut Shiner's lead to 18 points. Louise got the ball back quickly and Lauren Gresham drilled a 3-pointer to cut the lead to 15. Nicole Roades pulled down an offensive rebound and put it back in for a basket. She was fouled on the shot and made her free throw to cut the lead to 12 points. Katie Brown added a few scores and eventually, Louise cut Shiner's lead to eight points with 2:30 left in the game. It was the closest the Lady Hornets got to a complete comeback. Louise traded baskets with Shiner and fell 67-58. "I was very proud of the girls for the way we battled back," Branch said. |
