Hornets run over Shiner Comanches

Tuesday was a great start to district basketball play for the Hornets.

Louise traveled to Shiner and came home after a convincing 78-37 win. The victory put the Hornets at 1-0 in District 29-A.

By the first quarter, the game was already in hand for the Hornets.

Louise's defense held Shiner in check while the offense poured in the baskets for an early 15-3 lead.

The Comanches doubled their scoring in the second quarter, but it was not enough to keep up with Louise. The Hornets outscored Shiner 25-6 to take a 40-9 lead at the half.

Louise could have lasted the entire second half without a basket and still won the game by three points.

Shiner came back from the locker room fighting for points and gave Louise a challenge. The Hornets only outscored Shiner by five points in both the third and fourth quarters.

Louise topped the Comanches in the third 20-15 and the fourth 18-13 to finish with a 78-37 final score.

Matthew Blumrick and Wesley Branscum scored a team-high 15 points for Louise. Three other Hornets finished the night with double digit scoring figures. Desmond Pulliam scored 13, Matthew Vasquez scored 12 and Chris Hicks scored 10 points.

Led by Branscum's 12 boards, the Hornets pulled down a total 31 rebounds on the night.

Louise hosted Flatonia Friday night and the Hornets will travel to Moulton Tuesday to complete the first half of district play.

The second half features two home games for Louise scheduled for Feb. 5 and 12 against Shiner and Moulton respectively.
