Catch And Release
Kody Kubala (center), a 2006 El Campo High School graduate and treasurer of the Sul Ross State University Range and Wildlife Club, holds down this mule deer buck that he helped capture Dec. 15 on the Black Mesa Ranch located south of Alpine. He and four other Natural Resource students from SRSU volunteered to help capture a total of 72 deer in a 2-day period for a student from Texas A&M Kingsville. After capturing each deer, they tagged, performed ultra sounds, age and DNA testing and put GPS colors on the deer. Son of Darlene and Wayne Kubala, he had a 3.4 grade point average this past semester. He has plans of doing an undergraduate project next year over the Collared Peccary, commonly referred to as a Javelina. Kubala plans to graduate in two years with a bachelor of science in natural resource management to become certified wildlife biologist.
