El Campo community shines in many ways

During a recent interview, a reporter asked, "What are some of El Campo's greatest assets and attractions?"

I quickly responded that El Campo is home to the most incredible caring and giving people in all the world. Our community meets family needs through the Blessing Cup, El Campo Memorial Hospital, and our numerous medical professionals which include dermatologists, dentists, physicians, optometrists and even veterinarians.

El Campo is located within reasonable driving distance of both Houston and Victoria, and yet far enough away to allow our residents to maintain and enjoy a small-town atmosphere. In addition, our economy is holding strong and we have continued improving our existing infrastructure (schools, roads, emergency services, drainage, etc.) to ensure continued growth.

In the realm of attractions, El Campo provides local and regional recreational opportunities in the form of hunting, golf, bowling, theatre, skating and the Aquatic Center just to name a few. The community of El Campo is home to nationally recognized retail and restaurant establishments, including an incredible downtown business district.

El Campo's downtown business district provides the "heart beat" of our remarkable community. The historic architectural design and character of our downtown beckons visitors to stop and stay for a while. In addition, downtown shoppers will find state-of-theart electronics, household appliances, fabulous formal wear, beautiful floral arrangements, beauty shops, home décor and so much more. Trendy shops, restaurants and inviting nightspots are often discovered by visitors passing through. Local businesses offer unique and affordable experience for all those who visit.

As mentioned in previous articles, we will continue to improve the appearance of our city's gateways in order to attract the thousands of daily highway travelers to experience El Campo's uniqueness. Rest assured that once outsiders find their way into El Campo, visit with our friendly residents, and discover our many shopping and eating establishments, they will return time and time again with their friends.

As residents of El Campo, we must all encourage our neighbors and city government to initiate and support new and existing beautification and restoration projects throughout our entire city. As your Mayor, I encourage you to continue supporting the local businesses through your patronage, words of encouragement, and verbal recommendations to neighbors and guests to "Shop at Home".

Think of the opportunities that will arise as El Campo becomes recognized as a "destination" where visitors come to walk, shop, dine and enjoy this great community.
