Little League Registration Ends Thursday

Little League registration is going on until Thursday, Jan. 31. Go by All-Star Sports-N-Things and pick up registration forms, fill them out and leave the paperwork with the payment. Rotarians Meet In Wharton Today El Campo Rotary Club members are reminded they will have a joint meeting with the Wharton Rotary Club at the Wharton Civic Center, and there will be no Rotary meeting in El Campo Thursday. The meal will start at 11:30 a.m. rather than the usual noon.

Rotarians Receive Raffle, Meal Tickets El Campo Rotary Club members this week received their $100 raffle tickets and $8.50 meal tickets for the club's 28th annual Seafood Dinner and Benefit Auction. The more-than $60,000 raised each year supports many local projects. The club hopes to pay off its largest project, the El Campo Aquatic Center, either this year or next year at the latest. See any Rotary member for tickets, or drop by the Leader-News office. Rotary thanks you for your support!

LVFD Hosts Stag Stew Supper The Louise Volunteer Fire Department hosts a Stag Stew Supper Friday, Feb. 1 from 6 p.m. until midnight at the Louise Fire Department. Honorary membership dues are $30 and can be paid at the supper. Dues can be paid at The Short Stop if you cannot attend the supper or mailed to: LVFD, PO Box 249, Louise, TX 77455.

Labor of Love Distribution Friday Those who have applied for the Labor of Love food program may pick up their commodities at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church from 8:30-10:30 a.m. Feb. 1.

WCYF Creative Arts Entries Due All Creative Arts entries for the 2008 WCYF are due by Friday, Feb. 1. Save Three Lives Blood Drive St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church hosts its "Save Three Lives, All In A Day's Work" blood drive Sunday, Feb. 3 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Parish Hall. Contact Janice Kight at 543-5403 to sign up. Picture ID is required. Appreciation gifts and refreshments will be provided for donors. The blood drive will benefit the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center Blood Bank.

Gospel Singer Jerry Bennett In Garwood Nashville recording artist Jerry Bennett will be at Lehrer Memorial United Methodist Church in Garwood Sunday, Feb. 3 during the 9 a.m. worship service. The public is welcome to come enjoy the talent of this Christian artist.

Bake Potato & Sausage Dinner Feb. 3 Tidehaven Youth Boosters annual baked potato and sausage dinner, auction and raffle will be held Sunday, Feb. 3 at St. Peter Catholic Church Parish Hall in Blessing. Plates are $7, serving is from 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Auction begins at 12:30 p.m. with the raffle following the auction.

'Hope After Shattered Dreams' Meeting "Hope after Shattered Dreams" ministry has started for the El Campo community. Anyone who has experienced a loss resulting from, but not limited to death, divorce, job or deteriorating health is welcome to attend. Meetings are held the first Monday of each month at 6 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the El Campo Church of Christ, 315 E. Calhoun. For information call 543-4279. The next meeting is Monday, Feb. 4.

Ricebird Booster Club Meeting Ricebird Booster Club will meet Monday, Feb. 4 at 6 p.m. The meeting will take place in the weight room classroom. Anyone is welcome to attend.

ESL & GED Classes Available Free ESL & GED classes will be held at El Campo Housing Authority, 401 Ricebird. Enrollment will be Monday, Feb. 4 from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Learn to use computers and take online classes. First come, first enrolled. Call 1800-561-9652 for more information. EC Heritage Center Sells Bricks The board of directors of the El Campo Heritage Center reminds people that there are still bricks available to purchase for $100. Seniors/Parents Complete FAFSA Form There will be a representative from WCJC's guidance office Tuesday, Feb. 5, 19 and March 4 and 11 to answer questions and offer help to seniors and their parents in completing the FAFSA form. A sign-up sheet is in the Guidance office and it will be necessary to sign up for a time slot. Bring all 2007 financial information including your 2007 income tax return. 100 Club Membership Meeting The 100 Club of Wharton County Inc. hosts its annual membership meeting Thursday, Feb. 7 at the El Campo Civic Center. The social hour will begin at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 7 p.m., the business meeting and then a program by District Attorney Josh McCown. 'Cuts For Cancer' Feb. 10 Hair salons interested in participating in the 13th Annual Wharton County Cuts For Cancer should contact Hair Enterprises as soon as possible at 543-7757. This year's Cuts For Cancer is Sunday, Feb. 10. Licensed volunteers are asked to donate their time, at their own salons, cutting hair at regular prices and all proceeds for that day are donated to the American Cancer Society.

EB American Legion Fundraiser American Legion Post 226 of East Bernard hosts its annual scholarship fundraiser Sunday, Feb. 10. Barbecued chicken plates are $7 for dine-in or drive-through. Lutherans Host 'Girls of Grace Nation' Faith Lutheran Church hosts "Girls of Grace Nation" How You Live simulcast Saturday, Feb. 23. Tickets are $10 and need to be purchased by Feb. 12. Spay/Neuter Assistance Available The Matagorda County SPCA has a program to help financially disadvantaged people in Wharton, Jackson, Matagorda and the southern part of Colorado County get their dogs or cats spayed or neutered. 'Experience El Campo' Now Online Experience El Campo - 2007, the magazine produced by the El Campo Leader-News staff in cooperation with the El Campo Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture, is now online at www.experienceelcampo.com. The 2008 magazine will be out next week. Many local business Web sites will have the online edition of the magazine.
