Cinderella performance set for new ECMS stage
"This delightful, large-cast musical will charm audiences of all ages." - Senae Farrar

El Campo Middle School drama students are busy preparing for their first play to be held at the new campus Feb. 22-23.

The cast will present the classic fairy tale entitled Cinderella's Glass Slipper.

"This delightful, large-cast musical will charm audiences of all ages," said Senae Farrar, director.

Cinderella (Celeste McCann) works hard in the home of her cruel stepmother (Taylor Michaelsen). Her stepsisters Brunhilda (Kaleigh Montalvo) and Cleopatra (Jenny Johnson) see themselves as beautiful and think the prince will marry them.

Their neighbor Mistress Haughty (MeKayla Perkins) cannot wait for the ball and is running all over telling everyone the news of the big event.

Of course, the handsome prince (Romeo Hernandez) spends most of the evening at a palace ball trying to escape from them. With the help of his captain (Chance Nohavitza), Lt. Troubadour (Javian Quinones) and Majordomo (Tyler Farrar) the prince is able to ward off these hilarious sisters.

The Queen (Sabrina Benge) and her lady in waiting (Chelsey Nemec) try to handle the festivities and find the prince a bride before the end of the musical.

"The story is age-old, but you'll meet playful new characters in this fresh adaptation: three brave mice (Leslie Martin, Kyle Martin, and Kaylee Bram), a hesitant cat Attila (Abbie Farrar) and the amazing Pumpkinhead (Chelsea Salyer), who changes into a coach," Farrar said. "Our Fairy Godmother (Savannah Stockton) has her hands full tutoring an apprentice (Caitlin Bartosh) but still makes time for Cinderella."

Amazing stage magic sends our heroine off to the palace ball. As we know, she loses her glass slipper as she tries to run out before the clock strikes midnight. As the ladies of the kingdom (Carlee Skinner, Alexandra Thompson, Sierra Avendano, and Nancy Ortiz) try to fit into the crystal shoe, the prince finally finds the girl he is to marry.

This well-known classic is filled with songs by Bill Francoeur that create their own magic, such as the prologue "Once Upon a Time," the stepsisters' "Ladies of Fashion" and Cinderella's "Dream of Tomorrow."

Lighting and sound will be operated with assistance of Jake Lauritsen.
