WCYF Scholarship Applications Available

Attention graduating seniors! The Wharton County Youth Fair 2008 Scholarship applications are now available from your high school counselor. The applications will also be available for students to download from the WCYF Web site, whartoncountyyouthfair. org. Applications must be returned to the counselor's office on or before the deadline, which is Friday, Feb. 29. Applications will then be submitted to the Scholarship Committee for review, and applicants notified by mail of their interview time. Fair Office: 979-677- 3350.

AARP Meeting The El Campo AARP Chapter 1419 meets today at the El Campo Library. Lunch at noon and meeting at 1 p.m. Marilyn Sebesta is the guest speaker. Call 543-3514 for information.

'Pamper the Parent' Night The STAR Program and UCAP Program host a program for parents to come and get pampered today at the Boys & Girls Club, 713 N. Fahrenthold from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Come enjoy some time to yourself. Lots of surprises. You owe it to yourself, but you need to RSVP to Lupita at 979- 245-9231 ext. 7212. This program is funded by a grant from the Department of Family and Protective Services.

IMUD Board Meeting Rescheduled Due to a conflict in schedules, the Isaacson Municipal Utility District Board of Directors regular meeting, set for Thursday, Feb. 14 has been rescheduled to Tuesday, Feb. 19 at 6 p.m. at the IMUD office, located at 403 N. Liberty in El Campo. The IMUD office will be closed Monday, Feb. 18 in observance of President's Day.

Fiesta Hispaño Valentine's Day Dance Valentine's Dance sponsored by Fiesta Hispaño Americana will be held Friday, Feb. 15 from 8 p.m. until 1 a.m. at the KC Hall in Wharton. UH-Victoria Lecture On Security Management The University of Houston-Victoria School of Arts and Sciences hosts a lecture on security management Tuesday, Feb. 26 from 5-7 p.m. at the UH System building in Sugar Land, 14000 University Blvd., Sugar Land. Father/Daughter Valentine Dance Invitation is open to the community. Make plans now to attend the First United Methodist Church's Father/ Daughter Valentine Dance Saturday, Feb. 16 from 6:30- 8:30 p.m. at the church Fellowship Hall. Tickets are $25 for father-daughter or father-figure couple; tickets are $5 for each additional daughter. Fathers and daughters of all ages are invited to attend, and Sunday attire is suggested. Babe Ruth League Registration Wharton Babe Ruth League Registration dates for players ages 13-18 are Saturday, Feb. 16 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 24 from 2-5 p.m. at the Wharton High School baseball field. New players must bring a copy of their birth certificate. Registration fee is $80. All forms are available to print at www.leaguelineup.com/whartonbrb. Baked Potato Dinner Benefits ACS There is still time to get your tickets for the baked potato dinner fundraiser benefiting the American Cancer Society. The dinner is Tuesday, Feb. 19 at Country Pride. Tickets are available at Mid Coast Clinic or Superior Auto Parts for $6.50 each. Potatoes come with all the trimmings including beef, and banana pudding for dessert.

Seniors/Parents Complete FAFSA Form There will be a representative from WCJC's guidance office available Tuesday, Feb. 19, and March 4 and 11 to answer questions and offer help to seniors and their parents in completing the FAFSA form. A sign-up sheet is in the guidance office and it will be necessary to sign up for a time slot. Bring all 2007 financial information including your 2007 income tax return. Houston/El Campo Hospice Program The Nada/Garwood Gadabouts present a program by the Houston/El Campo Hospice organization at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21 at St. Mary's Parish Hall in Nada. Featured speakers are Gloria Garza and Doris Major. A question and answer period follows the program. The Gadabouts invite the public to attend to learn more about the service the organization provides. Refreshments will be served following the program.

NHS/Student Council Blood Drive The El Campo High School National Honor Society and Student Council will host a blood drive with Gulf Coast Blood and Tissue Center Friday, Feb. 22 at the high school gym. Sign up to give and help your favorite NHS or StuCo member earn community service points.

BBQ/Live Auction Benefits Williamson A benefit barbecue dinner and live auction for Garret Williamson is 4:30-6:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23 at the Louise Fire Station. He is the son of Zach and Libby Williamson. Plates are $7.50 for beef and sausage, pinto beans, buttered potatoes, pickles, onions and bread. Relay For Life Needs Short Stories The Relay For Life "Life Savers" are requesting short stories about individuals lives. Send your stories to dmikeska@ecmh.org or mail to El Campo Memorial Hospital, 303 Sandy Corner Road, El Campo, TX 77437. Simply write one page or less about life long ago, growing up, special times, special remembrances, etc. This does not have to be a long, detailed story - short and simple will work. Stories will be published in booklets and sold as a Relay For Life fundraiser benefiting cancer survivors. Include your name, address and phone number on all stories submitted.
