Baked Potato Meal Tuesday Benefits ACS

Tickets for a baked potato dinner fundraiser benefiting the American Cancer Society are available at Mid Coast Clinic or Superior Auto Parts for $6.50 each. The dinner is Tuesday, Feb. 19 at Country Pride. Potatoes come with all the trimmings, including barbecued beef, and banana pudding for dessert.

SATURDAY, FEB. 16

Father/Daughter Valentine Dance First United Methodist Church's Father/Daughter Valentine Dance is today from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the church Fellowship Hall. The public is invited. Tickets are $25 for father-daughter or father-figure couple; tickets are $5 for each additional daughter. Fathers and daughters of all ages are invited to attend, and Sunday attire is suggested. Babe Ruth League Registration Wharton Babe Ruth League registration for players ages 13-18 is today from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 24 from 2-5 p.m. at the Wharton High School baseball field. New players must bring a copy of their birth certificate. Registration fee is $80. All forms are available to print at www.leaguelineup.com/whartonbrb. Ricebird Band Boosters Meeting The Ricebird Band Boosters meet Monday, Feb. 18 at 6 p.m. at the El Campo High School Band Hall. Anyone interested in helping is invited to attend. For information call Leticia Mulford at 543-5334.

TUESDAY, FEB. 19

American Legion/Auxiliary Meeting American Legion Craig-Harriss Post 251 and its Ladies Auxiliary will hold their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 19 at the hall beginning with a social at 6:30 p.m. and a meal served at 7:15 p.m. Ladies Auxiliary members are asked to bring desserts.

Seniors/Parents Complete FAFSA Form There will be a representative from WCJC's guidance office available Tuesday, Feb. 19, and March 4 and 11 to answer questions and offer help to seniors and their parents in completing the FAFSA form. A sign-up sheet is in the guidance office and it will be necessary to sign up for a time slot. Bring all 2007 financial information including your 2007 income tax return. Citizens for a Responsible El Campo Citizens for a Responsible El Campo meet Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 5:30 p.m. at Muldoon's. The meeting is open to the public and all are welcome. Join in the discussion on our right to vote.

Houston/El Campo Hospice Program The Nada/Garwood Gadabouts host a program by the Houston/El Campo hospice organization at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21 at St. Mary's Parish Hall in Nada. Featured speakers are Gloria Garza and Doris Major. A question and answer period follows the program. The Gadabouts invite the public to attend to learn more about the services Hospice provides. Refreshments will be served following the program.

NHS/Student Council Blood Drive The El Campo High School National Honor Society and Student Council host a blood drive with Gulf Coast Blood and Tissue Center Friday, Feb. 22 at the ECHS gym. Sign up to give and help your favorite NHS or StuCo member earn community service points.

Scholastic Book Fair At Hutchins Elem. Hutchins Elementary School hosts a Scholastic Book Fair Friday, Feb. 22 and Monday, Feb. 25 through Thursday, Feb. 28 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. each day. On Thursday, Feb. 28 the book fair hours will be extended until 6 p.m.

Domino Tournament in Wharton Wharton KC hosts its 28th Annual Straight Domino Tournament Sunday, Feb. 24 at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 2820 N. Fulton in Wharton. Registration is from 8-9 a.m. Cost is $12.50 per person. Prizes will be awarded for the first four places. Food and drinks will be available. Proceeds will go toward scholarships and other charitable causes. Public invited.

Relay For Life Needs Short Stories The Relay For Life "Life Savers" are requesting short stories about individuals lives. Send your stories to dmikeska@ecmh.org or mail to El Campo Memorial Hospital, 303 Sandy Corner Road, El Campo, TX 77437. Simply write one page or less about life long ago, growing up, special times, special remembrances, etc. This does not have to be a long, detailed story - short and simple will work. Stories will be published in booklets and sold as a Relay For Life fundraiser benefiting cancer survivors. Include your name, address and phone number on all stories submitted.

5th and 6th Graders Special Event Parents of 5th and 6th graders and their sons and/or daughters are invited to participate in a special upcoming event called Created by God, Feb. 29-March 1 at the First United Methodist Church. Created by God is a study of human sexuality with a Christian foundation.

WCYF Scholarship Applications Available Attention graduating seniors! The Wharton County Youth Fair 2008 Scholarship applications are now available from your high school counselor. The applications will also be available for students to download from the WCYF Web site, whartoncountyyouthfair. org. Applications must be returned to the counselor's office on or before the deadline, which is Friday, Feb. 29. Applications will then be submitted to the Scholarship Committee for review, and applicants notified by mail of their interview time. Fair Office: 979-677-3350.
