EC trustess to debate sale of old ECMS site Sale of the old El Campo Middle School is one of the top items that will be considered by El Campo ISD trustees when they meet Tuesday night. The nearly seamless transition into the new, $17.6-million ECMS facility on FM 2765 took (See place Monday. Superintendent Mark Pool briefly mentioned at a Feb. 8 special meeting that someone has expressed interest in looking over the old ECMS campus on MLK Boulevard. That campus is in the 100-year flood plain and has flooded repeatedly. He said last week he had an appointment to talk to a prospective buyer this week, and noted sale of the property will involve a complex procedure. By law, the district has two choices in disposing of the property: It can sell it at market value, or "convey" it to either another educational institution or a nonprofit agency. ECISD trustees have said repeatedly they have no interest in continued ownership of the campus, or being saddled with a facility they don't need that requires expensive upkeep. At Tuesday night's meeting, the board will meet behind closed doors to deliberate the value of the property. In other business Tuesday night, the board will: • Formally issue the order calling an election for board positions 6 and 7, currently held by Tommy Turner and Melissa Erwin, respectively; • Consider a resolution opposing the Trans-Texas Corridor;• Review budget assumptions and priorities for next school year; and • Review pay for administrative and professional employees. The El Campo Independent School District board meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19 in the ECISD board room, 700 W. Norris. Meetings are open to the public. |
