Hubenak prepares for tour of duty in Iraq

Trained to collect and analyze signals as part of intelligence gathering, Navy Petty Officer Rebecca Hubenak is preparing to ship out for a tour of duty in Iraq.
With orders to process over, Hubenak visited El Campo grandmother Myrtle Fuick and Godmother Barbara Hrncir as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins over the last few weeks.
"Rebecca is currently in Maryland and will ship out the third week of February," Theresa Hubenak said.
A Cryptologic Technician Collection First Class Petty Officer , Rebecca L. Hubenak, is a graduate of Somerville High School and attended Blinn College before entering the Navy. Her parents are Donald & Theresa Hubenak of Lyons.
As a CTR, Hubenak performs duties including collection, analysis and reporting on communication signals using computers, specialized computer assisted communications equipment, video display terminals and electronic/magnetic tape recorders.
Hubenak joined the U.S. Navy Aug. 20, 1996 and reenlisted Aug. 3, 2007, for an additional six years.
She did her basic training in Great Lakes, Ill., before being assigned to the postal clerk school at Fort Jackson, S.C. in late 1996.
The Navy then shipped her to a two and a half year duty assignment in Souda Bay, Crete, Greece.
Hubenak returned to the states in August 2000 working as a recruiter through 2003 until assigned to the Crytologic Technician Collection (CTR) "A" School in Pensacola, Fla.
In April 2004, she was attached to the Navy Security Group Activity in Rota, Spain, through June 2005 when she returned stateside for more training.
Since March 2006, she has been attached to the Navy Information Operations Command at Fort Gordon, Ga.
CTR1 Hubenak has received the following awards throughout her Navy career: Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medal - fourth
duty in Iraq
award, Joint Meritorious Unit Citation Medal, Navy Unit Commendation Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal - second award, Navy Good Conduct Medal - third award, National Defense Service Medal, Kosovo Campaign Medal - second award, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Navy & Marine Corps Overseas Service Ribbon - fourth award, Navy Recruiting Ribbon, NATO Medal and Navy Marksman Pistol.
She has also received numerous Flag Letters of Commendation as well as Commanding Officer Letters of Commendation and Letters of Appreciation.
