LISD trustees to ponder fitness center fees
By BRENDA SOMMER bsommer@leader-news.com

Louise school trustees will work on a plan for operating their new fitness center and what to charge the public to use it when they meet Monday.

Louise ISD is creating the center, at a cost of about $57,000, to accommodate fitness gear it bought with a $200,000 federal grant for physical education equipment and teacher training. The grant funds cannot be used for athletics, buildings, sports fields or coaches. They can be used for everything from bouncy balls to stationary bikes, from jump ropes to universaltype weight machines.

In September, trustees decided to put the center in the old gym, which has room for dance or other fitness classes for the public when the space is not in use by students.

Trustees will also consider:

• Approving a resolution allowing the county appraisal district to buy land from the county for a new facility;

• Adopting a calendar for the coming school year, and a sitebased district improvement plan; and

• Extending contracts for the district's two principals, technology director and athletic director.

Prior the meeting, trustees will hold a workshop on the district's financial outlook, with an emphasis on staffing issues. After Louise residents approved a rollback election last fall, the district had to move forward with the same budget as last year, which has constrained its spending.

The board meets at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 18 for a workshop, followed at 7 p.m. by the regular meeting. The meeting will be held in the district's meeting room, in the administration building at 408 Second in Louise. Board meetings are open to the public.
