City annexation suit dismissed, appeal pending

      The lawsuit challenging the city of El Campo's recent annexations was dismissed in Wharton County's 329th District Court Tuesday before a crowd of about 40, but an appeal is already pending.

Construction under way for rail line return

      Efforts to return the Rosenberg to Victoria rail line are gathering steam, but it's still unknown whether trains will be chugging through El Campo or around the city. Kansas City Southern Railways, the line's owner, has already started construction in Fort Bend County.

El Campo gets chance to speak out on TTC plan
HEARING SET: The El Campo hearing on the Trans-Texas Corridor will be held at the El Campo Civic Center Thursday. The Open House is 5 to 6:30 p.m. with the public hearing to follow.

Man killed in Saturday wreck on FM 1162 first fatality of 2008

      A Mexican national killed in a one-vehicle accident on FM 1162 early Saturday morning is Wharton County's first auto fatality of the year. Emergency responders were summoned to FM 1162 about 1.9 miles south of El Campo at 4:10 a.m. Saturday to the report of a vehicle in a ditch.

ECHS still has 35 seniors lacking TAKS
