Girl Scouts selling cookie varieties today

Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council unloaded the 2008 Girl Scout cookie varieties by the truckload at Sam Houston Race Park Saturday, Feb. 16.

For more than a month, San Jacinto Council Girl Scouts have been taking orders for Girl Scout cookies. On Saturday, 16 trucks, two forklifts, 60 delivery men and 250 volunteers distributed 71,395 cases of cookies to 742 troops, who will soon be delivering nearly 856,740 packages of cookies to customers. Additional deliveries have been held in other parts of San Jacinto Council in February.

The eight varieties of cookies offered this year are: Thin Mints, Peanut Butter Patties, Peanut Butter Sandwiches, Shortbread, Thanks-ALot, Caramel DeLites, Lemonades and the newest variety: 100 calorie cookies in pouches called Cinna-Spins. The price for a package of cookies is $3.50. All varieties of Girl Scout cookies are now 0 grams of trans fat per serving.

There's still time to fill your cookie craving. Beginning Feb. 22, girls will offer the cookies at cookie booths outside of grocery stores and other retail venues. The sale ends March 30.

Girl Scouts troops in El Campo will be selling cookies at Wal-Mart beginning from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. today and tomorrow from noon until 2 p.m.

If you live outside El Campo, you can call 1-888-GS-COOKIE or visit www.gssjc.org to enter your zip code and be directed to the nearest Girl Scout Cookie booth.

The Girl Scout cookie program is a focal point of the Girl Scout Business and Economic Literacy initiative for girls ages 6 through 17, providing finance, marketing and public speaking skills.
