Jimmie' Williams
He was born Jan. 29, 1925 to Vernon C. and Erna K. Williams in Garwood and attended schools in Garwood and El Campo and was active in all sports. Jimmie was active in World War II and the Army 42nd Field Hospital and served overseas in the European Theater of War and participated in the Normandy Invasion, Northern France and Battle of the Bulge. He received the Arrowhead for the Normandy beach landing and five bronze battle stars. Jimmie married Dorothy Ann Vest in El Campo on March 12, 1948, and spent the most beloved part of his life as her husband. They were blessed with three lovely children, Scherry Lynn Williams, Melanie Gail Williams Booth and Kerry Drew Williams; three granddaughters, Ashley Williams, Erin Williams and Sarah Booth; one grandson, Mason Booth; two great-granddaughters, Hannah Shelby Booth and Lacee Taylor Booth; and one great-grandson, Connor Drew Smith. He is survived by his sister, Doris Boepple; and brother, Loy Williams. After being discharged from the Army, Jimmie worked for Humble Oil and Refining Co. for 15 years before leaving their employment to enter business with his wife Dorothy as owners of Courtesy Cleaners at 208 Morton St. in Richmond for 22 years. Upon retirement, he worked at the Greatwood Golf Course for 12 years. Jimmie was active in the Richmond and Rosenberg youth baseball program and truly loved maintaining the Babe Ruth baseball field in Rosenberg and working with the many superb youth he made contact with. The fondest memory of Jimmie's childhood was with brother Loy (Bubbie), riding his horse (Brownie) bareback and double, and trying to hit rocks across the Colorado River with a broom stick.
