Ricebirds win first ballgame

Playoffs end in heartbreak for Hornets

      Louise's basketball season came to an end with a first-round playoff loss Tuesday. The Hornets fell 56-50 to the Sabinal Yellow Jackets. The game seemed to mirror most contests in the Hornets' season.

Lady 'Birds hold off 'Necks' bats

      El Campo's first home softball game was a win Tuesday as the Lady 'Birds prevented a Columbia comeback for a 3-2 victory. The Lady 'Birds are coming off a 1-3 run in the Bryan/College Station Tournament, held last weekend. The girls defeated Austin and lost to La Joya, Bryan and St. Agnes.

Bard barely misses finals
      Bard barely El Campo High School swimmer Meredith Bard broke her own school record and just missed the finals heat at the state swim meet held at The University of Texas at Austin Friday morning. Bard placed ninth in the 50- yard freestyle during two preliminary heats.

      El Campo's boys and girls golf teams competed in the Lamar Consolidated ISD Individual Invitational Monday. A few members of the boys team earned high honors.       A talented El Campo opponent with ties to the community signed on to play college football. Terry senior Lekenwic Haynes signed an official letter of intent to play with the University of Mississippi Feb. 6, national signing day.
