It's Polka Time
Couples from El Campo and Nada attended Big Joe's TV Polka Fest at the Big Red Barn Event Center in Carmine Thursday, Feb. 21. Pictured with Big Joe from left to right are Augie and Terri Beltran, Leona and Bill Swoboda, Janie and Gus Popp and Ernestine and Ed Lee Schneider from Nada. Approximately 15 tunes were played per hour by each band starting at noon. Big Joe Polka is broadcast from Nebraska on the RFD Channel 379 on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. and Saturdays at 9 p.m. Eight different couples are chosen each day for their unique way of dancing to open the dance for each band. Augie and Terri Beltran were chosen and given a pin which reads "I was Chosen to Dance on the Big Joe Polka Show" with the picture of Big Joe. The event ran from Thursday through Sunday. Some of the couples won the tickets from KULP Radio.
