St. Procopius Spring Festival is Sunday, March 2 at Hillje Parish Hall. Plates of fried chicken, white rice and gravy, cole slaw and corn are $6.50 per plate. Serving begins at 11 a.m. Drive-through or dine-in at the Hillje Hall. Bake sale at Parish Hall. Raffle drawing after plates to-go.

ARC Hosts Lifeguard Training Classes The Rio Colorado Chapter of the American Red Cross hosts the following health and safety course: Lifeguard Training Prerequisites, a 32-hour course that teaches the skills and knowledge needed for lifeguards, including CPR-For the Professional Rescuer and First Aid Skills. Location is Bay City High School Pool, 2624 16th St., Bay City on March 1 from 8:30 a.m. till noon, March 2 from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. and March 8-9 from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. The course fee is $175 which includes all materials. ECISD Dedication And Open House El Campo Independent School District hosts a Masonic Lodge dedication ceremony at 1 p.m. and open house of the El Campo Middle School at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, March 2 at 4010 FM 2765 (behind the El Campo Civic Center).

DAV and Auxiliary Meet Monday Wharton County DAV Chapter and Auxiliary 72 hold their monthly meeting Monday, March 3 at the VFW Hall. Covered dish meal served at 6:30 p.m. and meeting will follow.

Ricebird Booster Club Meeting Ricebird Booster Club will meet Monday, March 3 at 6 p.m. The meeting will take place in the weight room classroom.

St. Philip School Host Open House St. Philip Catholic School will hold an Open House and Registration for the 2008-2009 Pre-K3 class on Monday, March 3 from 9-11 a.m. at the parish Hall. Parents ad prospective students are invited to tour the classrooms, meet the teachers and register on this date. Students must be age 3 as of Sept. 1 to be eligible for the program. Citizens For A Responsible El Campo Meeting Citizens for a Responsible El Campo will be having a meeting on Monday, March 3 at 5:30 p.m. at Muldoons, 110 W. Railroad. The meeting is open to the public. Join in and fight for your right to vote.

El Campo Book Club Meeting The El Campo Book Club will meet Thursday, March 6 at 5 p.m. at the El Campo Library. This month they are reviewing, The Book Thief, by Markus Zusak. Set in Nazi Germany, this is a fictional account of a young girl who has a fascination with books. However, she can't read. For more information call Phyllis Hodges at 543-8391.

Labor of Love Commodities Pickup Those who have applied for the Labor of Love program may pick up their commodities at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church on Friday, March 7 from 8:30-10:30 a.m.

Nutrition/Medication Management Class Council For Health Education and Development in conjunction with Houston-Galveston Area Council holds a four-hour class given by a registered dietitian and speech/ language pathologist focusing on food and drug interactions. The class is free to registered participants and will be held at the Wharton Civic Center's O'Quinn room, 1924 N. Fulton in Wharton Saturday, March 8 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Call 1-877-747-1542 for a reservation by March 6. Bring a list of your current medications. Snacks will be provided. Chili Supper Fundraiser The Glen Flora Fire Department holds a chili supper from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday, March 9 at the Glen Flora Fire Department. Chili will be served with rice, cornbread, tea and dessert. Dine-in or for pick-up. Tickets are $5 in advance and $7 at the door. Blessing KC Host Annual Fish Fry The Blessing Knights of Columbus Council 4307 sponsor their annual fish fry and raffle Sunday, March 9 in Blessing at St. Peter's Catholic Church Parish Hall. Plates are $7 and include dessert and drink. An auction will be held during the event.

Chicken/Homemade Dressing Fundraiser St. John's Altar Society hosts their annual chicken dinner Sunday, March 9 at Taiton Community Center. Serving begins at 11 a.m. Dine-in or plates to-go. Plates are $7. Activities include an auction, cake walk, country store, kiddie area, raffle drawing and silent auction.

SPJST Awards Dinner Meeting SPJST meets Sunday, March 9. Registration at 11:30 a.m. and meal at noon. Catered meal includes dessert so members should not bring desserts.

Fun Run/Pork Steak Dinner Fundraiser Louise Project Graduation will have a fun run Sunday, March 9 benefiting the Louise graduating class of 2008's Project Graduation, as well as a pork steak dinner. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. at Muldoon's, 110 W. Railroad in El Campo. Last bike out at 10:30 a.m.; last bike in at 1 p.m. All bikes and vehicles are welcome. Registration is $15. Wharton Book Review Club Meeting The Wharton Book Review Club meets Monday, March 10 at 10 a.m. at the Wharton County Historical Museum, 3615 N. Richmond in Wharton. Merle R. ECMH Host Blood Drive March 11 El Campo Memorial Hospital hosts a blood drive Tuesday, March 11 from 12:30-6:30 p.m. in the front lobby and front parking lot of ECMH, 303 Sandy Corner Road. Anyone 17 years or older, who weighs at least 110 pounds and is in good general health may donate blood. Eat at least four hours before donating blood.

Veterans Service Officer Hours The office of Wharton County Veterans Service Officer Harvey H. Stelzel Jr. is open Tuesdays and Wednesdays through March 26. Office hours are 7:30 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m. The office is located at 1017 N. Alabama Road in Wharton. Phone 532-1311.

Seniors/Parents Complete FAFSA Form There will be a representative from WCJC's guidance office available Tuesday, March 4 and 11 to answer questions and offer help to seniors and their parents in completing the FAFSA form. A sign-up sheet is in the guidance office and it will be necessary to sign up for a time slot. Bring all 2007 financial information including your 2007 income tax return. Spay/Neuter Assistance Available The Matagorda County SPCA has a program to help financially disadvantaged people in Wharton, Jackson, Matagorda and the southern part of Colorado County get their dogs or cats spayed or neutered. Motor Vehicle VIN Etching At No Charge The Wharton County Sheriff's office in conjunction with the Sheriff's Combined Auto Theft Task Force (SCATT) will host a motor vehicle VIN Etching Thursday, March 13 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the El Campo Volunteer Fire Department Training Facility, 1043 N/ Wharton in El Campo. The event is part of the "Watch Your Car Campaign" under the authority of the Texas Auto Burglary and Theft Prevention Authority. A card will be provided to give to insurance companies for a possible reduction in premiums. This service will be provided at no charge.
