Raffle drawing after plates to-go.SATURDAY, MARCH 1 ARC Hosts Lifeguard Training Classes The Rio Colorado Chapter of the American Red Cross hosts the following health and safety course: Lifeguard Training Prerequisites, a 32-hour course that teaches the skills and knowledge needed for lifeguards, including CPR-For the Professional Rescuer and First Aid Skills. Location is Bay City High School Pool, 2624 16th St., Bay City on March 1 from 8:30 a.m. till noon, March 2 from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. and March 8-9 from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. The course fee is $175 which includes all materials. Ricebird Booster Club Meeting Ricebird Booster Club will meet Monday, March 3 at 6 p.m. The meeting will take place in the weight room classroom. St. Philip School Host Open House St. Philip Catholic School will hold an Open House and Registration for the 2008-2009 Pre-K3 class on Monday, March 3 from 9-11 a.m. at the parish Hall. Parents ad prospective students are invited to tour the classrooms, meet the teachers and register on this date. Students must be age 3 as of Sept. 1 to be eligible for the program. THURSDAY, MARCH 6 El Campo Book Club Meeting The El Campo Book Club will meet Thursday, March 6 at 5 p.m. at the El Campo Library. This month they are reviewing, The Book Thief, by Markus Zusak. FRIDAY, MARCH 7 Labor of Love Commodities Pickup Those who have applied for the Labor of Love program may pick up their commodities at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church on Friday, March 7 from 8:30-10:30 a.m. DON'T FORGET Nutrition/Medication Management Class Council For Health Education and Development in conjunction with Houston-Galveston Area Council holds a four-hour class given by a registered dietitian and speech/ language pathologist focusing on food and drug interactions. The class is free to registered participants and will be held at the Wharton Civic Center's O'Quinn room, 1924 N. Chili Supper Fundraiser The Glen Flora Fire Department holds a chili supper from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday, March 9 at the Glen Flora Fire Department. Fun Run/Pork Steak Dinner Fundraiser Louise Project Graduation will have a fun run Sunday, March 9 benefiting the Louise graduating class of 2008's Project Graduation, as well as a pork steak dinner. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. at Muldoon's, 110 W. Railroad in El Campo. Last bike out at 10:30 a.m.; last bike in at 1 p.m. All bikes and vehicles are welcome. Registration is $15. Seniors/Parents Complete FAFSA Form There will be a representative from WCJC's guidance office available Tuesday, March 4 and 11 to answer questions and offer help to seniors and their parents in completing the FAFSA form. A sign-up sheet is in the guidance office and it will be necessary to sign up for a time slot. Bring all 2007 financial information including your 2007 income tax return. Spay/Neuter Assistance Available The Matagorda County SPCA has a program to help financially disadvantaged people in Wharton, Jackson, Matagorda and the southern part of Colorado County get their dogs or cats spayed or neutered. Motor Vehicle VIN Etching At No Charge The Wharton County Sheriff's office in conjunction with the Sheriff's Combined Auto Theft Task Force (SCATT) will host a motor vehicle VIN Etching Thursday, March 13 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the El Campo Volunteer Fire Department Training Facility, 1043 N/ Wharton in El Campo. The event is part of the "Watch Your Car Campaign" under the authority of the Texas Auto Burglary and Theft Prevention Authority. A card will be provided to give to insurance companies for a possible reduction in premiums. This service will be provided at no charge.
