COURT REPORTS

Allegations of car theft as well as accusations of drug possession will have several people facing felony trials following February deliberations of the Wharton County Grand Jury.

All of those indicted by the grand jury remain innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The indictment is a citizen jury ruling that a prosecutor has enough evidence to proceed with felony level charges.

Those indicted include:

• Rene Alberto Orta, 19, of 402 E. Emily in Wharton for unlawfully carrying a weapon on a licensed premise. He allegedly brought a knife more than 5 1/2 inches long into a Wharton business where alcohol was sold on Oct. 24, 2007.

• Carlos Francisco Sachitano, 24, of 1522 Castle Rock in Houston for two counts of possession of a controlled substance (cocaine and methamphetamine). He allegedly had less than 1 gram of each on Oct. 3, 2007.

• Valentino Villanueva Sanchez, 26, of Broadway Street #7 in Houston for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. He allegedly stole a vehicle on Sept. 22, 2007.

Sanchez has one prior felony conviction for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

• Shawn Solis, 17, of 410 Ash in El Campo for possession of a controlled substance. He allegedly had less than 1 gram of cocaine on Nov. 20, 2007.

• Harvey Joe Stokes, 49, of 501 Kerney in El Campo for assault of a public servant. He allegedly fought with an El Campo police officer on Oct. 21, 2007 when the officer attempted to arrest him.

Stokes has five prior felony convictions for possession of a controlled substance.

• Lee Cruz Trevino, 30, of 9445 FM 102 in Glen Flora for assault of a public servant. He allegedly fought with a Wharton police officer on Dec. 8, 2007 when the officer was attempting to investigate a 911 call.•

David Vasquez, 26, of 200 Shawnee in Corpus Christi for driving while intoxicated with a child passenger. He allegedly drove drunk on Oct. 5, 2007 with a child under the age of 15 in the vehicle.

The prosecutor also is alleging the vehicle was used as a deadly weapon in the incident.

• Tonetta Lynn Vaughn, 45, of 1501 Pinchot in El Campo for endangering a child and possession of a controlled substance. She allegedly had less than 1 gram of methamphetamine on Oct. 14, 2007 and failed to keep it inaccessible to a child under the age of 15 thereby placing the youngster in danger.
