JV softball team gets pair of W's

El Campo's junior varsity softball team earned a pair of nice wins over Columbia and Sweeny lately.

The Lady 'Birds topped West Columbia 9-4 Feb. 18 and Sweeny 4-3 Tuesday in two solid team outings.

The Lady 'Birds scored three runs in the second inning and six in the fourth to finish with their strong win.

Starting pitcher Tracy Gerla moved to 1-0 in junior varsity play after holding the Lady Roughnecks to four runs and seven hits.

El Campo's offense was led by some strong overall performances. Gerla led the team with 3 RBIs while Robbin Eggemeyer brought in 2 and Amanda Poncik, Ashley Gonzales and Malanie Martinez each had 1 RBI.

Gerla also had a teamhigh three hits, all singles. Gonzales hit for a single and triple for two hits, Poncik earned a double and a single, Raven Owens and Eggemeyer both hit a pair of singles, Elizabeth Lurker and Martinez hit a double and Chelsea Solis hit a single in the win.

EC vs. Sweeny

El Campo progressively ate away at Sweeny's pitching to take a win.

The Lady 'Birds scored one run in both the first and second innings to move ahead 2- 0. The third was the most productive inning for El Campo's hitters. The girls earned two runs to take a comfortable lead in the game.

Sweeny answered with three scores in the fourth inning and fell one run away from tying the Lady 'Birds in El Campo's latest win.

Gerla earned her second win of the year.

Eggemeyer and Owens earned the only two RBIs on the night. Eggemeyer led the team with two hits, a triple and a single. Taryn Socha, Lurker, Poncik and Gerla each hit singles.
