Aggie Moms Scholarship Fundraiser

The El Campo Aggie Moms Scholarship Fundraiser dinner is Wednesday, March 12. Fried chicken, buttered potatoes and green beans will be served. Plates to-go only at Staff's Food Service. Serving time is 4:30- 6:30 p.m. Plates are $6.50. Tickets can be purchased until Friday, March 7 from Motsy at Commercial State Bank or Susan at The Travel Store.

El Campo Book Club Meeting The El Campo Book Club meets Thursday, March 6 at 5 p.m. at the El Campo Library. This month they will review The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, a fictional account of a young girl in Nazi Germany who has a fascination with books but can't read. Mt. Zion Pentecostal Host Revival Mt. Zion Pentecostal Church hosts a revival at the El Campo Civic Center Friday, March 7 and Saturday, March 8 at 7 p.m. The program consists of Bishop Fred A. Nutrition/Medication Management Class Council For Health Education and Development and Houston-Galveston Area Council hold a four-hour class by a registered dietitian and speech/language pathologist focusing on food and drug interactions. The class is free to registered participants and will be held at the Wharton Civic Center's O'Quinn room, 1924 N. Fibromyalgia Support Group Meeting The Wharton Fibromyalgia Support Group meets Saturday, March 8 at the main branch of the Wharton Public Library from 10:30 a.m.-noon in the Harrison Conference Room. The topic this month is Stress and Chronic Pain - What is the Connection? All those with or interested in fibromyalgia may attend. Chili Supper Fundraiser The Glen Flora Fire Department holds a chili supper from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday, March 9 at the Glen Flora Fire Department. Chili will be served with rice, cornbread, tea and dessert. Dine-in or for pick-up. Tickets are $5 in advance and $7 at the door. Blessing KC Host Annual Fish Fry The Blessing Knights of Columbus Council 4307 sponsor their annual fish fry and raffle Sunday, March 9 in Blessing at St. Peter's Catholic Church Parish Hall. Plates are $7 and include dessert and drink. An auction will be held during the event.

Chicken/Homemade Dressing Fundraiser St. John's Altar Society hosts their annual chicken dinner Sunday, March 9 at Taiton Community Center. Serving begins at 11 a.m. Dine-in or plates to-go. Plates are $7. Activities include an auction, cake walk, country store, kiddie area, raffle drawing and silent auction.

SPJST Awards Dinner Meeting SPJST meets Sunday, March 9. Registration at 11:30 a.m. and meal at noon. Catered meal includes dessert so members should not bring desserts.

Fun Run/Pork Steak Dinner Fundraiser Louise Project Graduation holds a fun run Sunday, March 9 as well as a pork steak dinner. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. at Muldoon's, 110 W. Railroad in El Campo. Last bike out at 10:30 a.m.; last bike in at 1 p.m. All bikes and vehicles are welcome. Registration is $15. Music, door prizes, 50/50. Wharton Book Review Club Meeting The Wharton Book Review Club meets Monday, March 10 at 10 a.m. at the Wharton County Historical Museum, 3615 N. Richmond in Wharton. Merle R. Hudgins will review The Path to Power-The Years of Lyndon B. Johnson by Robert A. Caro. Season memberships are $25. Individual programs and guests are $5 and may be purchased at the door. Derby Doll Booster Club Meeting The Derby Doll Booster Club meets Monday, March 10 at 5:30 p.m. at J. Brew's. All Derby doll parents are invited to attend.

Project Graduation Meeting There will be a Project Graduation meeting Monday, March 10 at 6 p.m. at Myatt Elementary. Parents are encouraged to attend. The list of activities and work schedules for Project Graduation will be announced. Parents interested in working will need to sign up at the meeting.

LISD Host Spring Book Fair The Louise School Library holds its spring book fair March 10-14. Hours are 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Family night is Thursday from 4-7 p.m. Refreshments and gift certificates will be given each hour starting at 5 p.m.

TUESDAY, MARCH 11

ECMH Host Blood Drive March 11 El Campo Memorial Hospital hosts a blood drive Tuesday, March 11 from 12:30-6:30 p.m. in the front lobby and front parking lot of ECMH, 303 Sandy Corner Road. Spur T-shirt for all donors. Call Donna Mikeska at 543-6251 with questions or to sign up. Photo ID required. Anyone 17 years or older, who weighs at least 110 pounds and is in good general health may donate blood. Eat at least four hours before donating. The drive will accept replacement blood units for Kim Hezog, an El Campo High School alumna who is ill and lives in Katy, where she is hospitalized.

Seniors/Parents Complete FAFSA Form There will be a representative from WCJC's guidance office available Tuesday, March 11 to answer questions and offer help to seniors and their parents in completing the FAFSA form. A sign-up sheet is in the guidance office and it will be necessary to sign up for a time slot. Bring all 2007 financial information including your 2007 income tax return. Motor Vehicle VIN Etching At No Charge The Wharton County Sheriff's office in conjunction with the Sheriff's Combined Auto Theft Task Force hosts a motor vehicle VIN Etching Thursday, March 13 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the El Campo Volunteer Fire Department Training Facility, 1043 N/ Wharton in El Campo. The event is part of the "Watch Your Car Campaign" under the authority of the Texas Auto Burglary and Theft Prevention Authority. A card will be provided to give to insurance companies for a possible reduction in premiums. This service will be provided at no charge. Veterans Service Officer Hours The office of Wharton County Veterans Service Officer Harvey H. Stelzel Jr. is open Tuesdays and Wednesdays through March 26. Office hours are 7:30 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m. The office is located at 1017 N. Alabama Road in Wharton. Phone 532-1311.

Spay/Neuter Assistance Available The Matagorda County SPCA has a program to help financially disadvantaged people in Wharton, Jackson, Matagorda and the southern part of Colorado County get their dogs or cats spayed or neutered. Please call the SPCA at 979-323-8787 for information or for an application, or to help with the effort.

The 2008 'Run For Excellence' The first annual 'Run For Excellence' to benefit St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Parish and the St. Philip Pioneer athletic department is Saturday, April 5 at St. Philip's football field. Race registration is 7:30-8:30 a.m.; the 5k Run/Walk begins at 8:45 a.m. and the 1-mile Family Run begins at 9 a.m. Entry fee is $20 per person. Forms available at the school or parish office.
