County seeks EMS district input After hearing from some of the community, Wharton County Commissioners will be looking for input from all on the proposed Wharton County Emergency Services District No. 2 Thursday. The commissioners court has scheduled a 7 p.m. public hearing on the creation of the district, which would collect tax revenues to support the East Bernard EMS Department, at the East Bernard High School Cafeteria, 727 Fitzgerald. The commissioners are scheduled to vote on approving the election at their March 10 meeting, the last available date for the May election cycle. The EBEMS service area is defined from a starting point of the Texas 60 and U.S. 90-A intersection. It would extend east to the Fort Bend County line, west to the Colorado County line, north to the Austin County line and south to the CR 208-Texas 60 intersection. If the second ESD is ultimately approved by voters, those in the area would pay taxes to two ESDs. The Wharton County Emergency Services District covers the entire county with a 3-cent tax to support volunteer fire departments. |
