LETTERS TO THE EDITOR TTC unwanted by 'real Texans' Editor, the Leader-News: What do you have to lose with the Trans-Texas Corridor? If the corridor is allowed to become reality, Texas and America as we know it will be changed forever. You will no longer be able to recognize Texas as the country our forefathers died to protect. Several communities will be split up or even disappear completely and many families will lose their homes. Some of our losses will also include: 1. Control of Texas land to a foreign country. 2. America's sovereignty. 3. Property from tax rolls. 4. Precious farmland and crops. 5. Income from local sales. 6. Ancestral land, homes and history. 7. Access to families, communities and jobs. 8. Valuable ecosystems and wildlife. Thus, you will have increased living expenses due to higher taxes, groceries and gas. Furthermore, our safety will be jeopardized due to increased drug trafficking, illegal immigration and terrorism. The Texas Department of Transportation and Gov. Perry are not presenting all the facts. There will be numerous corridors that will cross Texas splitting it into many pieces and eventually cross the United States. Don't let them manipulate the facts or use scare tactics to convince you that the TTC is best for Texas. Those who support the TTC are the only ones who will profit, not us. This plan is designed to benefit Spain, Mexico, China and private investors. No real Texan wants the TTC because of the destruction it will cause to our native land, heritage and wildlife. For more information go to www.CorridorWatch.org. We must unite now so that our voice is heard and our government gets the message that we put them in office to protect our country, not to rip us apart. We are not for sale! There are other solutions to transportation and the TTC is not one of them. Write and call your local, state and national legislators and tell them to stop the Trans-Texas Corridor. (See www. capitol.state.tx.us to get contact info for your legislators). The deadline to voice your opinion to TxDOT is March 19. Write to: I-69/TTC, P.O. Box 14428, Austin, TX 78761 or via www.keeptexasmoving.com/comments. Please don't wait until it is too late to save Texas. We have too much to lose. God Bless Texas, Deborah Tolson, Citizens United for Texas Pancake supper biggest so far Editor, the Leader-News: On behalf of the First Lutheran Church of El Campo we would like to say a big thank you to the community for all their support at our annual pancake supper on Feb. 24, 2008. This year's supper was our biggest turnout and we appreciate everyone for helping us reach our goals for this year. Our next pancake supper will be held the last Sunday in February of 2009. Watch for further announcements in the El Campo Leader-News newspaper. Thank you, Nelda Wagner Council President Group's intentions clarified Editor, the Leader-News: I am writing on behalf of Citizens for a Responsible El Campo. There has been a lot of publicity on the organization in regards to the current annexation issues. I would like to clarify that Citizens for a Responsible El Campo was formed to do exactly what the name implies, fight for a responsible El Campo. We are 'for' what the people want. We are not against the growth of El Campo or against annexation. The citizens that are part of this organization are for their Constitutional rights, including their right to vote. Thank you, Mike Moran |
