Bike Fun Run, Meal Helps LHS Project Grad

Louise Project Graduation holds a fun run Sunday, March 9 as well as a pork steak dinner. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. at Muldoon's, 110 W. Railroad in El Campo. Last bike out at 10:30 a.m.; last bike in at 1 p.m. All bikes and vehicles are welcome. Registration is $15. Music, door prizes, 50/50. Pork steak dinner available for $6.50 per plate. Fibromyalgia Support Group Meeting The Wharton Fibromyalgia Support Group meets Saturday, March 8 at the main branch of the Wharton Public Library from 10:30 a.m.-noon in the Harrison Conference Room. Chili Supper Benefits Glen Flora VFD The Glen Flora Volunteer Fire Department's chili supper is 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday, March 9 at the Glen Flora Fire Department. Chili will be served with rice, cornbread, tea and dessert. Dine-in or for pick-up. Tickets are $5 in advance and $7 at the door. Blessing KC Hosts Annual Fish Fry The Blessing Knights of Columbus Council 4307 sponsors its annual fish fry and raffle Sunday, March 9 in Blessing at St. Peter's Catholic Church Parish Hall. Plates are $7 and include dessert and drink. An auction will be held during the event.

Chicken/Homemade Dressing Fundraiser St. John's Altar Society hosts its annual chicken dinner Sunday, March 9 at Taiton Community Center. Serving begins at 11 a.m. Dine-in or plates to-go. Plates are $7. Activities include an auction, cake walk, country store, kiddie area, raffle drawing and silent auction.

SPJST Awards Dinner Meeting SPJST meets Sunday, March 9. Registration at 11:30 a.m. and meal at noon. Catered meal includes dessert so members should not bring desserts.

Wharton Book Review Club Meeting The Wharton Book Review Club meets Monday, March 10 at 10 a.m. at the Wharton County Historical Museum, 3615 N. Richmond in Wharton. Merle R. Hudgins will review The Path to Power-The Years of Lyndon B. Johnson by Robert A. Caro. Season memberships are $25. Individual programs and guests are $5 and may be purchased at the door. Derby Doll Booster Club Meeting The Derby Doll Booster Club meets Monday, March 10 at 5:30 p.m. at J. Brew's. All Derby doll parents are invited to attend.

Project Graduation Meeting There will be a Project Graduation meeting Monday, March 10 at 6 p.m. at Myatt Elementary. Parents are encouraged to attend. The list of activities and work schedules for Project Graduation will be announced. Parents interested in working will need to sign up at the meeting.

Saddle Club Monthly Meeting The Saddle Club monthly meeting is Monday, March 10 at 5:15 p.m. at the Ozarka building.

LISD Hosts Spring Book Fair The Louise School Library holds its spring book fair March 10-14. Hours are 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Family night is Thursday from 4-7 p.m. Refreshments and gift certificates will be given each hour starting at 5 p.m.

ECMH Blood Drive March 11 El Campo Memorial Hospital hosts a blood drive Tuesday, March 11 from 12:30-6:30 p.m. in the front lobby and front parking lot of ECMH, 303 Sandy Corner Road. San Antonio Spurs T-shirt for all donors. Call Donna Mikeska at 543-6251 with questions or to sign up. Photo ID required. Anyone 17 years or older, who weighs at least 110 pounds and is in good general health may donate blood. Eat at least four hours before donating. The drive will accept replacement blood units for Kim Herzog, an El Campo High School grad who is ill and hospitalized in Katy. She is the daughter of Richard and Enda Herzog.

Seniors/Parents Complete FAFSA Form There will be a representative from WCJC's guidance office available Tuesday, March 11 to answer questions and offer help to seniors and their parents in completing the FAFSA form. A sign-up sheet is in the guidance office and it will be necessary to sign up for a time slot. Bring all 2007 financial information including your 2007 income tax return. Citizens for a Responsible El Campo Citizens for a Responsible El Campo meet Tuesday, March 11 at 5:30 p.m. at Muldoon's. The meeting is open to the public and all are welcome. Join in the discussion on our right to vote.

Motor Vehicle VIN Etching At No Charge The Wharton County Sheriff's office in conjunction with the Sheriff's Combined Auto Theft Task Force hosts a motor vehicle VIN Etching Thursday, March 13 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the El Campo Volunteer Fire Department Training Facility, 1043 N/ Wharton in El Campo. The event is part of the "Watch Your Car Campaign" under the authority of the Texas Auto Burglary and Theft Prevention Authority. A card will be provided to give to insurance companies for a possible reduction in premiums. This service will be provided at no charge. 'Heating It Up For Hospice' Cook Off 'Heating It Up For Hospice' Barbecue Cook-off, Friday, March 14 and Saturday, March 15 at Muldoon's Saloon, 110 Railroad St. El Campo. Joe Diffie will be performing Friday night. Saturday includes a 5K 'Stride & Stroll/Kid Fun Run.' Register at 8 a.m. and start at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. for 12 and under. Community Wide Clothing Benefit The first annual Community Wide Clothing Benefit is Saturday, March 15 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. If you or your family are in need of clothes to wear, please go by the El Campo Church of Christ Fellowship Hall, 311 E. Calhoun. The gently-used clothing is free. This event is organized by our community's 'HOPE after Shattered Dreams' Ministry Support Group.

Appreciation Service For Edwards Holy Temple Church of God in Christ of Louise hosts an appreciation service for Elder Darnell Edwards and Sis. Irma Jean Edwards for celebrating 16 years of service Sunday, March 16 at 3 p.m. Guest speaker will be the Rev. B. Sanford.

Easter Egg Hunt/Spring Carnival New Life Assembly of God Church, 707 Earl hosts its First Annual Easter Egg Hunt and Spring Carnival Sunday, March 16 after morning services, approximately 12:30 p.m. Tickets will be sold for games and food plates are $4, (hot-dog, chips and a drink). Bring the kids and their baskets for a day of fun.

American Legion & Auxiliary Meeting American Legion Craig-Harriss Post 251 and its Ladies Auxiliary hold their 89th birthday party Tuesday, March 18 in the new hall beginning with a social at 6:30 p.m. A meal will be served at 7:15 p.m. Ladies Auxiliary members are asked to bring desserts.

Rotary Fish Fry, Auction March 20 El Campo Rotary Club members are out selling $100 raffle tickets to help fund the club's many projects that help make El Campo a great place to live and work. Prizes include gift cards valued at $20,000, $2,000 and $1,000. Seafood dinner tickets (eat in or take out) are $8.50 each. Serving is from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Evening includes a live and silent auction, and $5 raffle. This is Rotary's only fundraiser each year. Tickets are available from any Rotarian, or at the Leader-News office M-F, 8-5.

Easter Bake Sale Lifesavers Relay for Life Team hosts an Easter Bake Sale Thursday, March 20 at Mid Coast Medical Clinic, Sandy Corner Road at 8 a.m. until sold out. We'll do your Easter baking!

Relay For Life Online Training For Captains Relay For Life of Wharton County will be holding classes on the new online Web site. All team captains (new and current) need to attend one of the meetings listed. If you are not able to attend, send one of your team members in your place. El Campo's training will be Monday, March 24 at 5:30 p.m. at the El Campo Library meeting room. Wharton's training will be held Tuesday, March 25 at 5:30 p.m. at the Wharton Public Library. All attendees will receive: Online Training Manual and Relay For Life Gifts. Attendees will be registered for door prizes.

Veterans Service Officer Hours The office of Wharton County Veterans Service Officer Harvey H. Stelzel Jr. is open Tuesdays and Wednesdays through March 26. Office hours are 7:30 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m. The office is located at 1017 N. Alabama Road in Wharton. Phone 532-1311.

St. Philip Sponsors 'Run For Excellence' The first annual 'Run For Excellence' to benefit St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Parish and the St. Philip Pioneer athletic department is Saturday, April 5 at St. Philip's football field. Race registration is 7:30-8:30 a.m.; the 5k Run/Walk begins at 8:45 a.m. and the 1-mile Family Run begins at 9 a.m. Entry fee is $20 per person. Forms available at the school or parish office.
