Hudgins offers biographical work of former U.S. President

As a regular of the Wharton Book Review Club, Merle Hudgins will be returning Monday, March 10 to talk about a former president. The club will meet at 10 a.m. at the Wharton County Historical Museum, 3615 N. Richmond, in Wharton.

Hudgins will review The Path to Power- The Years of Lyndon B. Johnson by Robert A. Caro.

Path to Power reveals in extraordinary detail the early life of LBJ, beginning with his birth and the man who became the 36th president of the United States. Caro is the premier biographer of LBJ's life, having researched and written three books. Path to Power and Means to Ascent were winners of the National Book Critics Circle Award. Master of the Senate won the Pulitzer Prize.

Hudgins is a historian and former columnist for the El Campo Leader-News and the Wharton Journal-Spectator. She is the Wharton County Historical Museum archivist and board member and also marker chairwoman for the Wharton County Historical Commission.

"She brings delightful and insightful reviews of non-fiction books" said member Sammy Lou Franks. "Expect to be thoroughly entertained by Hudgins, who makes every book she reviews come alive."

Season memberships are $25. Individual programs and guests are $5 and may be purchased at the door. For information, call Dorothy Hensley at 979- 543-5837; Sally Soderquist at 979-532-4936; of Sammy Lou Franks at 979-532- 4615.
